L.A. FILM FESTIVAL PREMIERE OF "PUBLIC ENEMIES"

This has been a huge week for Hollywood with premieres at the LA Film Festival, and last night was no different. Universal Pictures' "Public Enemies" starring Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Billy Crudup, and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard, made its Los Angeles debut to a packed house eager to see this Michael Mann directed crime drama. This true story centers around the notorious bank robber, John Dillinger and his group of crime misfits including Babyface Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd who terrorized the American banking industry during the Great Depression in the 1930's. Depp, the extrodinary and versatile actor that he is, nailed the role of Dillinger flawlessly, and look for a great performance from Crudup as a frustrated J. Edgar Hoover, who had a failing FBI task force but wanted to get ahold of the elusive Dillinger who was always one step ahead of the law with his many jail breakouts and disappearing acts. Marion Cotillard gave a fantastic performance as Billie Frechette, a downtrodden coat check girl who is swept off her feet by the ever so charming Dillinger, and fights to protect her man until the very end. If you like gunslinging and never ending shootouts, then you will love this flick.

The after party, held at the Hammer Museum in Westwood where Babyface Cocktails made with Rose's Cranberry Twist were served, drew the stars of the film as well as other on-screen talent. Actress Rosario Dawson in bright red lipstick and a 1960's dressed Marion Cotillard had fun gabbing and snapping pictures together in the courtyard. Stephen Dorff aka Homer Van Meter in the flick, spent most of the night chatting with family and close friends, and even escorted his proud grandmother around the soiree. Dapper Christian Bale entertained his several tables of supporters and made an early exit from the bash. A well guarded Johnny Depp, with several bodyguards in tow, remained ensconsed in the Universal Pictures' VIP area, but made time to converse with mega producer Jerry Bruckheimer. And yes, Depp looks just as good as ever!

LA FILM FESTIVAL PREMIERE OF "TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN"

Optimus Prime is baaaaack! Last night was a big night in Los Angeles as Paramount Pictures' "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" premiered at the LA Film Festival in Westwood. This Michael Bay directed flick, which he also executive produced with Steven Spielberg, will not let action and Transformer-loving audiences down. Sam Witwicky (Shia LeBeouf) struggles with wanting to be a normal college freshman and heeding the call to help the Autobots. After finding a shard of AllSpark, Sam's head is filled with ancients symbols. Together with Jetfire, an old Decepticon who switches to the Autobots, as well as other cronies, they are lead on a journey around the world, including France and Egypt trying to rid the universe of the evil Decepticons. And in true Michael Bay fashion, look for tons of blowups, action sequences, and special effects. And don't forget-a fair amount of (daisy duke and tight shirt wearing) Megan Fox (Mikaela Banes) thrown in for good measure. A nice surprise was comedian Rainn Wilson assuming the role of an eccentric Professor Colan. Celebrities who rolled down the Red Carpet included: Shia Le Beouf, a Grecian goddess looking Megan Fox in a long white dress, an army jacket wearing Emile Hirsch, devilishly handsome Josh Duhamel (sans Fergie who might still be tied up in Toronto due to that Perez Hilton/Black Eyed Peas scuffle), a red tuxedo jacket wearing Tyrese Gibson, singer Ciara, Travis Barker with his 2 kids in tow, musician Deryck Whibley with no Avril Levine in sight, a pregnant Kendra Wilkinson with fiance Hank Baskett, couple Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush, and filmmaker Michael Bay.

The after party was held on a couple of cordoned off city blocks in the middle of Westwood with Paramount Pictures sparing no expense, including a live performance from Linkin Park, who also wrote the music in the film, as well as elaborate food stations catered by Wolfgang Puck and several open bars pouring Rose's Mojito Cocktails. As I made my way to the VIP seating area, many of the stars chatted with one another including Shia LeBeouf, Megan Fox, and Oscar winner and "Tranformers" cast member Jon Voight. Josh Duhamel couldn't have been nicer as we chatted about his performance as Captain Lennox in the movie-does he look good in army fatigues! Tyrese was having a great time speaking with party goers and Emile Hirsch was very modest when given praise about his starring role in "Into the Wild." After the Linkin Park performance which got everybody excited, DJ Bizzy spun his tunes while guests posed for pictures with various Tranformers action figures sprinkled around the perimeter of the soiree. A blowout bash indeed!

RED CARPET ROXY'S "RED ALERT" OF THE WEEK-JUNE 21, 2009

As if the city of San Diego, California doesn't have better things to spend millions of dollars on on than ridding a public beach of harbor seals. Back in the 1930's this particular beach was designed as a bathing pool, but after years of erosion, this wading area became a beach and seals eventually took it over and now call this beach home. Millions of tourists come to catch a glimpse of the seals in their natural habitat, and are happy to do so. Well, now a judge (Yuri Hoffman) in San Diego wants to reverse this and kick the seals out using extremely expensive ($700,000) dog barking devices to scare the seals away, then spend additional millions of dollars dredging up the sand and re-creating a wading area (and let's not forget attorney fees). Many locals find it absurd that this judge would use hard earned taxpayers dollars in such a frivolous way and want the seals to be left alone. Also, this is the last beach in the area that isn't populated by humans, so it is really the only place the seals can go.

"IT MIGHT GET LOUD" PREMIERE AT THE LA FILM FESTIVAL: GUITAR HEROES

The 3 rock 'n' roll subjects-Jack White, Jimmy Page, and The Edge

If you have ever been moved by music (who hasn't), you cannot miss Sony Pictures Classics "It Might Get Loud." Told through the eyes and voices of rock legends Jimmy Page and The Edge, as well as guitar virtuoso Jack White, this isn't your typical rock doc. Forget the commentary from rock historians and critics-this film goes straight to the source-the guitar heroes themselves. Watching the movie last night at the LA Film Festival premiere sitting by Page and White, I was endeared to them as they laughed at themselves and each other on the silver screen, particularly the opening scene where White fashions a home made guitar out of an empty glass Coke bottle, some wood, and old wire, then plugs it into an amplifier, strums, and declares, "Who says you need to buy a guitar?"

Director Davis Guggenheim ("An Inconvenient Truth") deposited these 3 musical greats onto a sound stage for 2 days of filming, making sure they didn't cross paths before, and just let the cameras roll, while surrounding them with their beloved 6 strings (and in Page's case-the addition of his legendary double neck 18 string.) What happens is some spectacular jamming and stories from band life, but also a lot of reflection and insight into their personal lives, which were sometimes exciting but other times mundane. Some highlights include: The Edge taking the audience back to his grade school in Ireland where he met a young Paul Hewson (Bono), Larry Mullen Jr., and Adam Clayton and where they played their first outdoor "concert" for schoolmates, Jimmy Page telling the story of how he contemplated quitting the music business when he became disillusioned with his work as a studio musician recording Muzak (background music), and Jack White talking about how he moved his bed out of his room when he was a youngster and slept on a piece of foam so he would have enough room for 2 drum sets! It is no secret that these men are where they are because of their undeniable talents, but also because of who they are as men.

The after party at the Hotel Palomar in Westwood, drew several celebrity attendees including funnyman John C. Reilly, writer J.J. Abrams, producer of the film Leslie Chilcott who was anticipating her next documentary with Guggenheim about the sad state of the U.S. public school system, and Director Davis Guggenheim with his wife, actress Elizabeth Shue who admitted to me that this was her favorite piece of work so far by her husband.

Stars of the movie, Jimmy Page and Jack White arrived together sans The Edge who is knee deep in rehearsals for the U2 360 degree tour commencing in Barcelona at the end of this month (where you can catch Red Carpet Roxy as well!) Guitar playing icon Jimmy Page recounted the knowledge he gathered from The Edge and Jack while filming this production, "I thought I knew them through their music, but I learned so much more about them as people." The Raconteurs frontman Jack White laughed about his desire to become a priest before hitting it big on the billboard charts, saying, "It was very likely. It was only the fact that I didn't think I could bring the guitar to the seminary I got accepted to that I didn't go." Filmmaker Guggenheim was adamant about his direction and passion for the film, stating, "We didn't want to make the encyclopedia of the electric guitar or the 'accurate film.' It is very visceral and emotional." And so much more!

Sadly, the after party itself was anything but fit for rock 'n' royalty. With the energy from the premiere a real high, it's unfortunate that the after party was a real low. I would have hoped this type of fete would have at least had audible music or have even set the stage for an impromptu performance by these rock gods. However, this film is a must see, so go check it out!

Actress Selena Gomez is starting to grow up and embracing her teenage years with grace and style. You don't hear about her conveniently forgetting to wear her underwear while exiting a car! She scored big fashion points at the Toronto premiere of "Princess Protection Program," where she donned this sassy little Tadashi Shoji one-shouldered number, accented with silver satin Stuart Weitzman heels, bracelets by Ippolita and Stephen Webster, and Asha by ADM's earrings. Keep it coming, Selena!

WORLD PREMIERE OF "PAPER MAN" AT THE LA FILM FESTIVAL

Last night was the start of Film Independent's LA Film Festival in Westwood, kicking off with the world premiere of "Paper Man," starring Jeff Daniels, Lisa Kudrow, Ryan Reynolds and Emma Stone. The story centers around Daniels' character, Richard Dunne, a middle aged writer with writer's block in an unhappy marriage to Kudrow, a surgeon who would rather be 100 miles away from her husband. He befriends a teenager played by Emma Stone and learns about friendship and embracing maturity. Ryan Reynolds takes on the role of Captain Excellent (think ripped muscles in a blue leotard and short, spikey blonde hair-one of the few actors that could actually pull this look off while looking hot and not annoying), a superhero and possibly the only friend Richard Dunne has ever had, until Emma comes along. The acting was well above average, particularly that of Emma Stone whose complicated teenage character is dealing with her own inner demons and a very troubling, out of the ordinary past. A movie worth seeing. Some of the celebrities in attendance were, Christina Ricci, a leather jacket shrouded Christian Slater, Laura Dern, Robert Downey Jr. going low profile in a T-Shirt and shades, and Dermot Mulroney. From there, it was off to the premiere after party at the Napa Valley Grille, where vodka mojitos were served with Rose's Mojito Cocktail Mix and Marani vodka-the perfect drink for summer.

RED CARPET ROXY'S "RED ALERT" OF THE WEEK-JUNE 15, 2009

In an effort to balance the failing California budget, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is making a proposal that will effect those that don't have a voice and certainly didn't choose to be put where they are. Those are animals in shelters. The Governor is trying to cut funding to the state's shelters and shorten the amount of time animals are held in government sponsored shelters from 6 to 3 days before they are euthanized! This means that any lost, abandoned, stray, adoptable animals will have half the time to find its lost owner or a forever family and in essence, it doubles the number of animals in shelters that will be euthanized.

This proposal isn't even a profitable solution to a deficit caused by greed and careless spending. This would also change the previous mandate passed by the state of California in 1998 which gives all animals 6 days to be adopted out of government funded shelters before they are euthanized. Sadly, 6 days isn't enough time to save millions of these animals from euthanization each year. Click here to read more about this issue.

After having celebrated the career of Michael Douglas, I was on my way to the next stop of the evening, a soiree for acclaimed jeweler Tiffany's hosted by my USC college pal and fashion powerhouse Vogue Contributing Editor, Lauren Santo Domingo. In fact, it was a girls' night as my other bff's were also in attendance. The event was high above the hills of Los Angeles in the penthouse suite of the Chateau Marmont Hotel. As stylish guests sipped champagne and listened to DJ Gordon's spun tunes in the night air, they also gazed adoringly at the beautiful baubles, admiring the new Tiffany Keys collection, and even tried them on.

Celebrity party goers included stylist to the stars Phillip Bloch, actress Jordana Brewster, "Top Design" judge and Viceroy hotels interior designer Kelly Wearstler, and former "Desperate Housewife" Nicollette Sheridan, who wasn't shy about holding hands and or giving a little romantic squeeze to her date's buns during the fete. Maybe he had just gotten her something in a little blue box?

MICHAEL DOUGLAS PRESENTED WITH THE AFI LIFE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: A NIGHT OF LAUGHS, LOVE, AND TEARS

It was an emotional night on Thursday as Michael Douglas, his family, and his friends arrived at Sony Studios in Culver City to watch Michael accept the AFI Life Achievement Award, the highest honor given for a career in film. The program was taped and will be airing on TV Land on July 19th, 2009 at 9:00 PM ET/PT. As the stars made their way down the Red Carpet, many shared stories about Michael and reiterated how proud they were of his achievement.

Eternal Playboy Hugh Hefner, with his bevy of blonde girlfriends in tow, affirmed that he was "very proud of Michael. We are here to pay tribute to a very special human being and a very special talent."

Proud wife and fellow actor Catherine Zeta-Jones gave the reason why she thought her husband had such a lasting, successful career in Hollywood acknowledging, "It's just being a movie star the way Michael Douglas is and always will be."

Clearly bowled over with emotion, a teary-eyed Michael Douglas relayed to me that this night was "overwhelming" and he was emotional because his loved ones, especially his father and fellow AFI Life Achievement Award recipient, Kirk, was in attendance to share this special evening with him.
In fact, when I spoke with Kirk, he kept the mood very lighthearted, joking about Michael receiving the award 10 years after him, "It's terrible! He's too young to have a Life Achievement Award or otherwise I'm too old!"

Other famous friends on hand to celebrate Micheal's career included: Benicio Del Toro, Matthew McConaughey, Tobey Maguire, Kathleen Turner, Christopher Lloyd, Warren Beatty, Annette Bening, Jesse Metcalfe, Jane Seymour, and Eric McCormick. A very special night indeed.

RED CARPET ROXY'S "RED ALERT" OF THE WEEK-JUNE 8, 2009

Red Carpet Roxy's "Red Alert" of the Week focuses on the troubling issue of puppy mills in the United States. The mills are commercial breeding facilities in which multiple dogs are stuffed into unsanitary, wire cages usually in the elements with little or no socialization, exercise, veterinary care, or loving human interaction. Sadly, many of these dogs paws have never even touched solid ground and when they have been rescued they do not even know how to walk on the soil after living on wire their whole lives. These dogs are bred cycle after cycle and once they are unable to produce any more offspring, they are either destroyed or discarded.

Currently, Petland Inc., the largest chain of pet stores in the country that sells puppy mill dogs, and Hunte Corp. the largest broker of factory produced puppies, are being sued in a class action lawsuit by plantiffs such as The Humane Society for misleading the public into believing they were purchasing healthy, non-puppy mill pooches when the opposite was true. Many of the dogs puchased were extremely sick with multiple issues/ailments and often died soon after they were taken home by unsuspecting dog lovers.

STEP UP WOMEN'S NETWORK 6TH ANNUAL INSPIRATION AWARDS: WOMEN INSPIRING WOMEN

Women helping women. It isn't a hard concept to grasp, but more often than not women are portrayed as being catty and malicious towards one another, especially in the entertainment business. Not so today at the Step Up Women's Network 6th Annual Inspiration Awards, held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, where women came out to support and to celebrate the lives and achievements of other women. The Step Up Women's Network is a national, nonprofit membership organization that connects professional women with less fortunate teen girls who are looking for a mentor.

Today's honorees included "Desperate Housewives" star Marcia Cross, who was being awarded by National Hall of Fame swimmer Diana Nyad, President of The Container Store Melissa Reiff who was receiving her accolade from one of the former hosts of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" Constance Ramos, and Lisa Ling, who was procuring her distinction by the one and only Larry King. Marcia was a little bit nervous, but was elated to have her mentor in the audience for support. As far as her own twin daughters go, she is happy to be finger painting with them this summer and aspires for them to have "a strong voice and speak up for themselves" as they mature.

Lisa Ling (with her adorable and no doubt supportive Mom in tow) put on a brave face for the cameras, but let me in on the harrowing details of her life right now, especially concerning the captivity of her best friend and journalist sister, Laura, and fellow journalist Euna Lee in communist North Korea. Both Laura Ling and Euna Lee were on assignment reporting about the trafficking of women along the China/North Korea border and were taken into custody by the North Korean military for committing "hostile acts." Unfortunately, they are being put through a trial right now and have had little contact with their friends and family back here in the States, which has taken an immense emotional toll on the Ling family. So does this affect Lisa's desire to go out in the field and give a voice to the stories that she is so passionate about? She emphatically stated, "This makes me want to be a better journalist, a better person, and to try to open people's eyes to things that are happening in the world." Any who were Lisa's female mentors? Her mother, current boss Oprah, and Connie Chung. Many of the females in attendance shared and reinforced the importance of women empowering and supporting other women, including Aisha Tyler who has a new comedy driven talk show coming out on NBC, Lesley Ann Warren one of the stars of "In Plain Sight", Katelyn Pippy from "Army Wives," actress Elizabeth Rohm, former "Dancing With the Stars" runner up Stacy Keibler, maternity clothing designer Liz Lange, and a Catherine Malandrino clad Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon who included her eldest son in today's festivities. As for summer plans, I think Garcelle summed it up nicely when she expressed that she hoped her dog days would include, "Fun, bathing suits, and a mojito!" Me too!

RED CARPET ROXY'S "LOOK OF THE WEEK"-LUNCH 'N' GO

Red Carpet Roxy's "Look of the Week" goes to Stacy Keibler ("Dancing with the Stars") for the Laundry ensemble she wore at the Step Up Women's Network Fashion Show and Luncheon that I just returned from at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. Of course, it isn't hard to see that probably anything she wears looks amazing on her frame and mile long legs to boot! Love the halter neckline (one of my personals faves) and form fitting, high waisted skirt. Perfect luncheon attire! Stay tuned for my coverage of the luncheon..............

SWITCH IT UP!

One of my most favorite boutiques in all of LA, Switch on Beverly Drive, came together with Nicole Richie and her House of Harlow 1960 jewels, along with Pete Wentz, who hosted and displayed his Clandestine Industries Street wear to present a fashion show tonight at Boulevard 3 in Hollywood. Adding to the excitement was the fact that MTV was also shooting their upcoming show called, "The Stylist," which follows a group of wannabe celebrity stylists as they battle endless Red Carpets, movie premieres, music videos, and other high-pressure scenarios. As time wears on, their friendships develop, frenemies take hold, and love is gained and lost. All while making chump change as junior assistants and in the meantime maintaining "the look." Sounds interesting, doesn't it? The night also included Robin Antin produced girl group-the Paradiso Girls-which Robin assured me was more edgy and raw than the Pussycat Dolls, and also more international with the females in the group originating from foreign locales such as the Phillipines and France. The other band set to play this evening was The Academy Is from Wentz's native Chicago. Bassist Adam Siska just recovered from hand surgery (and he showed me the scar that ran the outer length of his hand), so he was a little perplexed at how nimble his fingers would be, and in fact the doctor advised him not to play. Fingers crossed-ouch!

Strolling the Red Carpet side by side were a visibly pregnant, vintage clad ($10 top!) Nicole Richie and Mr. Pete Wentz. Nicole chatted about how she matched her jewelry collection to the clothing, saying when choosing the looks, it was "more about the outfit and really complementing the outfit." Pete was excited for his birthday tomorrow and was happy to share it with his son, wife, and friends. Good thing his wife Ashlee wasn't too far away-sitting in the first row of the fashion show cheering on his designs in her own "clandestine" hooded jacket.

Eve rocked the Red Carpet in a barely there leather vest and form fitting pants, looking forward to her performance with her label mates, the Paradiso Girls. Her contribution included doing a rap at the top and middle of their song titled, "Patron Tequila," but she disclosed to me that she isn't exactly light on her feet when singing. Eve said,"I don't dance like (the Paradiso Girls) and sing. I get confused. If I have got to think about dancing and singing, it is one or the other." Who knew?

A tawny Perrey Reeves, aka Mrs. Ari Gold from "Entourage," was fresh from her abode in Costa Rica, arriving in LA only 2 days before. For fear of losing her job on "Entourage," she didn't want to spill too many secrets from the upcoming season, but she did reference to me that Emmanuelle Chriqui would be resuming her role as sweet as pie Sloan, and that Mrs. Gold and Sloan would actually get to be in a scene together, which Perrey was thrilled about. She also said it would involve "great outfits and some fun." Maybe with each other? You will have to stay tuned to find out!

"THE PROPOSAL" WORLD PREMIERE: I DO!

The stars at night are big and bright deep in the heart of Hollywood! Specifically, the El Capitan Theater where the new Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds Touchstone Pictures romantic comedy, "The Proposal," held its world premiere to an audience last night which included the stars of the movie, their co-stars from their other projects, as well as their significant others. The story focuses on Bullock's character, Margaret, a high powered New York book editor who faces the prospect of being deported to her faraway native land-Canada! Grasping for anything, she quickly determines that the only way to stay in the good old U.S.A. is to marry her poor assistant, Andrew (played by Reynolds), whom she has tormented for years. Add to that mix Andrew's quirky family, helmed be the one and only Ms. Betty White who plays Grandma Annie, and you have a recipe for smart comedy.

Star Sandra Bullock glowed in a beautiful dress by designer Alexander McQueen. She arrived with her real life co-star, hubby Jesse James former host of "Monster Garage" and most recently a contestant on "Celebrity Apprentice," who snuck into the theater as his love spoke with reporters. If you don't know, Sandra has very "exposed" run in with Ryan Reynolds in the movie. In fact, the actors were both totally naked and screenwriter Peter Chiarelli proclaimed to me that Sandra reassured him, "Go for every joke, go for it, lets make this thing funny!" And did they ever! Peter described the naked scene as "a lot of flipping and flopping." And what does Jesse James think of Sandra's infamous scene? She divulged to me, "I do it to him every morning, and he doesn't find it funny-yet. I will keep doing it until he starts to find it funny." I am sure he doesn't mind!

Silver screen hottie, Ryan Reynolds, cruised down the Red Carpet amongst the screams of his adoring female fans cheering him on from across the street, and conversed about his uber cozy scene with Bullock, saying that "we knew each other for 9 years before this, it helped." And is Sandra really as funny in real life as she is in front of the camera? Ryan ascertained, "She's hilarious, even when she is sleeping or not in the room with me, she makes me laugh!" I can see that!

Comedy legend Betty White, who I just had the pleasure of interviewing a few weeks ago, looked adorable in a little blue number that she disclosed to me that she had, "in the back of the closet. There it was and I put it on. I like the color." She was anxiously awaiting the start of the movie, "I am dying to see the movie, I haven't seen it yet!" She also voiced her opinion on the older woman/younger man theme of the flick saying, "(Margaret) is only a few years older than (Andrew) in the film, but if you really want a contrast, let's do it with me!" Any takers?

Red Carpet stunner in a Prada dress, Martin Katz jewels, and co-star of the film, Malin Akerman echoed Ryan's description of Sandra, "She is hilarious! She is always on. There is never a serious moment. She has a great sense of humor." The talk then turned to the cougar phenomenon and what Malin's future holds when it comes to preying on younger males. She maintained, "It's very much in my future, in my present. My mother likes younger men and she would be the first one to tell you. You can call her a cougar, definitely, so I see nothing wrong with it." Game on, boys!
Prime time players also attended the premiere. "The Office" actress Kate Flannery came out in support of her fellow co-star Oscar Nunez, who plays a not so exotic, exotic dancer in the movie. Kate is thrilled to use her summer hiatus to go back east and hang with her family in Philadelphia and the Jersey Shore. "The Bachelor: London Calling" winner Shayne Lamas was happy to gab about her new reality show premiering on E! centering around her unconventional family, headed by her father, actor Lorenzo Lamas. She promised that her Dad will be seen as a "family man" and to watch out for the episode in which her mother, Michelle Smith, literally pushes her ex-stepmother Shauna Sand out of Shayne's birthday party. Shayne summed it up as, "blond hair, boobs, everyone flying everywhere!" Holy catfight!

Sadly, Iceland's whaling season began this past Tuesday where as many as 100 Minke Whales, widely known for being friendly, will be shamelessly slaughtered. The Icelandic government is clearly aware of the opposition to the killings, as evidenced by the banning of the killings in the capital Reykjavik's harbor, but then insensitively allowing it to continue in a bay just outside of the city.

According to Campaign-Whales, "Iceland's whaling company owner has announced he intends to sell the whale meat to Japan. There is little demand for whale meat in Iceland. Meanwhile, Iceland has a rapidly growing whale-watching industry that clearly demonstrates that whales are worth far more alive than dead. However, the Icelandic authorities say they can have a watch-watching and a whaling industry. We have to convince them that they will lose more than can ever be gained by killing these whales."

Campaign-Whales advises the following ways to help:

FAME ROUTE PRESENTS A NIGHT WITH ELEW: PARTYING ON THE FLY

It was such a treat last night to be at the Fame Route Party, featuring an open bar by Rose's Cocktail Mojito, Marani vodka, Barefoot wine, and Stella Artois beer, produced by David Manning and the team of A-List Communications at Guys & Dolls in West Hollywood, and in particular to listen to the music styling of Mr. Eric Lewis, otherwise known as ELEW. For those of you that don't know, ELEW is a rock jazz master pianist. And is he a master! Watching him work the piano keys, as well as tweaking the strings inside the piano frame, while projecting a high energy, fireball performance, you really have never seen anything like him. He takes songs previously written by other songwriters, retools them, and makes them all his own. He has already played for the likes of U2, President Barack Obama, and Quincy Jones. Get familiar with him now because in a few years he will be a household name.

As he related to me about his passion, I understood how he transforms himself for his performance. "I saw a soft spot in the industry. A lot of jazz players who were attempting to do rock were avoiding the physical element of it. I have deep seeded heavily embedded passion, fiery feelings and I have to get it off my chest. I churn and make the piano throb and the room throb." Does he ever! He will be embarking on a European tour this summer and is working on his version of "Live to Tell" by Madonna and Coldplay's "Life in Technicolor." Where will he be in 5 years? Without hesitation, he declared"Rich!" I have no doubt about that. Please take a moment and watch Eric's handiwork in the video below.

Fame Route co-owner Gil Peter, couldn't have been more impressed with ELEW's performance. "You hear Eric and your jaw drops. He is that good of a talent." Thrilled about his own company that provides a luxury transportation service to members who want to fly private while sharing the experience with other members. And at $155-$5500 per ticket for a cross country flight, the price is quite comparable to that of first class service on a commercial airliner, but without the hassle of long security lines and large airport hassle. Plus you have the added bonus of networking with other members while you travel. Literally, business on the fly! Recently signing up 600 members in 55 days, this concept is gearing up rather than slowing down in this lousy economy. Who would Gil like to fly next? "The general public. Those are the people I care about."

"Desperate Housewives" star, Fame Route member, and fellow Texan Ricardo Chavira and I had a good laugh commiserating over the lack of "real Tex-Mex food" in California. He was in attendance to support his buddy Gil Peter and to hear piano master ELEW. I can hardly wait for the next season of "Desperate Housewives" which promises to be intriguing. Look for new addition to Wisteria Lane, Ana Solis (played by Maiara Walsh), stirring the pot and acting up as a rambunctious teenager in the Solis household, sure to create drama and tension between her Uncle Carlos and Aunt Gabrielle. Ricardo isn't taking the summer off, but rather filming the remake of "Piranha."

After this lively party wrapped, the MTV post awards shindig officially began. Tom Arnold came in and assumed his position on one of the banquettes. Actors Jonathan Schaech, nominated for an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain in "Prom Night" but lost out to Heath Ledger for "The Dark Night," and Nick Gonzales chatted with one another and then each individually worked the room. Singer Ryan Cabrera arrived with a posse that included Diana Ross' daughter Chudney, fellow singer Jesse McCartney, and not 1 but 2 meat head bodyguards. Hmmm, maybe one of those burly boys was hired to protect his hair? You know how dangerous and threatening a bunch of 20 something hipsters, 30 something professionals, MTV Movie Awards attendees, various celebrities, and a sprinkling of WeHo locals can be. Fierce!

SECRET ROOMS MTV MOVIE AWARDS CELEBRITY GIFT LOUNGE: CELEBRITIES, GIFTS, AND MORE!

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the doors of an uber exclusive, highly guarded celebrity gifting suite? I have just returned from the Secret Room Events MTV Movie Awards Celebrity Gift Lounge at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills, benefitting the Downtown Women's Center of Los Angeles. Picture lots of chatting, cameras flashing, posing, and of course gifting, aka swag, all in preparation for the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday night.

As I made my way through multiple vendors, here are some of the products that really stood out: C & C California for their sunny, beachy line of comfortable tops and dresses (favored by the likes of Kate Hudson), Adonia for their Stemulift Serum that actually repairs the skin, Dimitri James and his Skinn Cosmetics, most notably Absolute Perfection Face Brightener, Asian import Vagosang HMF Skin Vitalizer that promises "flawless jade vitality," and Sanitas Skincare for their Peptiderm Eye Treatment. Yes, there were lots of beauty treatments, but how else would you look Red Carpet ready?

I also had the pleasure of chatting with celebrity attendees about what they are up to. I always enjoy conversing with dashing Olympic Silver Medalists from U.S. Water Polo Team, Genai Kerr (sporting his U.S.A. jersey with pride) and Peter Hudnut. They are already back in training for the 2012 Olympic Games in London for which they are planning on bringing home the gold, although silver isn't too shabby, especially when you have it on!

In between make-up touch ups (see photo at top left), I spoke with Hakeem Kae-Kazim from "24" who insisted he was too shiny. He maintained that he couldn't believe Kiefer Sutherland's latest scrap with designer Jack McCollough from Proenza Schouler, since Kiefer is so "laid-back and giving" on set. Who would he like to see guest star next on "24?" Bart Simpson. So if you are out there Bart, have your people call his people to set something up! Long time no see is what I was thinking as I chatted with "Blossom" star Mayim Bialik who has been out the the showbiz game for years now after having 2 kids and going to grad school, but she still looks the same.

She will be making an appearance tonight on TLC's "What Not to Wear," with her old "Blossom" buddy Jenna von Oy aka Six showing up as well. Excited to be re-emerging herself back into the bright lights of Hollywood (including guest spots on "Bones" and "Saving Grace"), Mayim acknowledged that the industry is very different now and swag wasn't around back when she was better known as Blossom 15 years ago. Welcome to gifting galore! As I turned the corner, huge fan of the Alice & Olivia for Payless shoes, "Hustle and Flow" star Elise Neal didn't want to let go of one red boot in particular.

Pretty cool considering these shoes are all priced under $50! Who says you can't have fun fashion at affordable prices? I quizzed Elise about who throws the best MTV Movie Awards After Party? I am sure you can guess her answer-soiree scion P. Diddy, of course! You will have to stay tuned to see if Red Carpet Roxy will turn up at his shindig on Sunday night. Hmmm.....bubbly awaits!

Meow! is all I have to say about last night's book signing party for Charlie Scola's "Party Planning Secrets: The Ultimate Guide to Planning an Extraordinary Party" sponsored by Angeleno Magazine at Donald J. Pliner in Beverly Hills. The event benefited the Stray Cat Alliance whose mantra is "to build a no kill nation one stray at a time." As guests mingled and sipped on Pama Pomegranate Liquor cocktails to wash down treats from Le Pain Quotidien, the talk of the night was about parties and cats.

Executive Director of Stray Cat Alliance, Christi Metropole, cuddled adorable adoptee, Foxy, as she relayed to me the main goals of her organization that, "all feral cats are spayed or neutered and no cats die in the shelters." There are millions of stray cats that live on the streets, and while many can live a fulfilling life, they all need to be fed and have water regularly, as well as be spayed or neutered. This can be achieved by what Christi referred to as TNR-Trap, Neuter, Return. According to the their site, there has been a 30%-60% decrease in the number of cats euthanized in areas were this TNR system is practiced. She maintained that everyday citizens should "take action for the animals in their world" and not assume that cats living on the streets are being taken care of by someone else.

Cat lovers were definitely taking note and having a great time playing with the kittens that were up for adoption. "Young and the Restless" star Steve Richard Harris declared, "I love cats! I have a puppy right now, but once the puppy is old enough, I think we will move on to cats." Similarly, actress Benu Mabhena of "Blood Diamond" echoed the message of the evening, "Cats are the most wonderful little creatures. These are hard times and usually animals suffer first. And if people can help then they should help." And about Leonardo DiCaprio, her co-star in "Blood Diamond?" she assured me that was extremely nice, really humble, and he would give her advice on set as she was a newbie on this kind of large scale production. She also mentioned that he got hurt while filming and they shut down the production. Now that is power!

Self-proclaimed "Party Charlie" Scola was having a joyful time signing copies of his new book which he wrote for 4 years called, "Party Planning Secrets: The Ultimate Guide to Planning An Extraordinary Party" and even offered me his 5 steps "to creating an outrageously successful party." 1. A very creative, high energy worded invitation 2. Greet your guests at the door 3. Create the ambiance with music and lighting (preferably pink light as women's make up tends to look good in this type of light) 4. Give your guests something else to do besides drinking 5. Have great food and beverages, but not necessarily expensive ones. And for whom would he like to plan a epic blowout? Sir Paul McCartney, but he vocalized that the shindig would have nothing to do with the Beatles or English food. And as far as felines go, Charlie is a huge fan, stating, "You adopt a cat, and you will not be sorry. You will be very happy. You will start doing things like I did like bringing a picture of my cat to this booksigning!"

This company was the last of those who started with designing haute couture first and then moving on to pret-a-porter (ready to wear) and accessories, much in the vein of Chanel and Christian Dior. GUYS & DOLLS OPENING PARTY: A PLACE NOT TO BE MISSED

I had a great time last night at the opening party for Guys & Dolls, the newly renovated hot spot on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles. Owner Michael Sutton has transformed the place into a super sleek and luxurious venue complete with blue striped walls, extremely high leather banquettes, and to top it all off, a gorgeous crystal chandelier in the center of the room that must be blinding once the light hits it. Drinks are served as either shots, martini style, or cocktail style, with the chalkboard menu changing daily. After my initial glass of bubbly, I indulged in the "Robertson Boulevard" cocktail, a fruity mix of pineapple juice, orange juice, and Bacardi Rum, served in one of those large plastic tumblers you would normally reserve for iced tea. It is nice to get your money's worth!

As more party goers filtered in, DJ AM threw down and turned up the heat in the room with his fast paced, crowd pleasing turntable style. The guests, who were extremely mixed from 20 something hipsters to Frank Sinatra look alikes, sang along and danced on top of the towering banquettes. Milling about the crowd was a sport coat clad Matthew Perry doing laps of the room, relatively new Mom and Victoria's Secret Angel Alessandra Ambrosio looking stunning in a strapless black top, and a cocktail sipping ex-Miss California USA pageant co-director Shanna Moakler was hanging by the front banquette grooving to DJ AM's tunes. This place is definitely special and not your typical L.A. drinking spot, as the energy of the room transports me back to my bar days in Manhattan-land of good vibes and a cool mix of people.

The joint is sure to explode after this Sunday's line up of all star events, beginning with a party presented by Fame Route, with the master rock piano performance of Eric Lewis (ELEW) who has played for President Barack Obama and "Vanity Fair's" Oscars Party just to name a few. Following that shindig, a rocking, celebrity infused MTV Movie Awards After Party that will carry late into the night. Both of these killer fetes will be produced by special events and marketing powerhouse, A-List Communications. You know where to find Red Carpet Roxy come Sunday..........on top of one of those banquettes enjoying my cocktail!

Today's Red Carpet Roxy's "Red Alert of the Week" goes to an organization dedicated to saving the lives of animals who are in danger of being euthanized at local shelters. Pilots N' Paws coordinates willing pilots with over crowded shelters so that the pilots are able to donate their flight services in order to move these animals to a safe place like a rescue group, sometimes several states away, until a permanent forever home can be found. Often times, these innocent animals are in danger of being put down simply because of over crowding and lack of the means and man power to tranfer them to these rescue groups. What a great way to earn your wings!

The green carpet was the place to be on Wednesday night as much of young Hollywood journeyed out in support of Details Magazine and havaianas fete at MyHouse. The shindig was held in honor of actor Kyle Howard, musicians Tamarama and Jay Nash, and artist Jayson Atienza for their laid-back ease and approach to life.

Kyle arrived with a group of friends, including Lauren Bosworth and Lauren Conrad from "The Hills." While Kyle chose to remain tight lipped about his suspected paramour, Lauren Conrad, he did comment that he was a laid back person-even in real life. "I am mellow, pretty much a flip flops guy." He is waiting to hear if his show, "My Boys" will get picked up for another season. In the meantime, he will travel to Indonesia for a surfing trip this summer, where I am sure his havaianas will come in very handy.

Fellow thespian and Details reader, Jonathan Sadowski rolled up the carpet fresh from his Maui vacay. In fact, he loved it so much that he is returning to the island paradise in August. He will turn up next in an new movie called "The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard" about used car sales men. Slated for an August release, the cast is also comprised of funnyman Will Ferrell, actor Ving Rhames, and Jeremy Piven aka Ari Gold from "Entourage." As you can imagine, you will probably laugh until it hurts.

Alli Sims had a few things to say about her former boss and bff, Britney Spears. "I love her and I miss her and I am so happy where she is right now and I can't wait to run into her and congratulate her on everything." About Sam Lufti and the court case surrounding the Spears family, Alli maintained, "I don't have anything negative to say about him or anybody regarding the whole matter. I have tried to stay out of it. I never saw anything that was questionable." Alli is focusing on her music career, and the release of her single, "Driving Blind" which debuted on Ryan Seacrest's radio show just a few weeks ago.

Ensembled in a sassy Robert Rodriguez party dress, America Olivio of "Bitch Slap" just returned from showing her film at the Cannes Film Festival, along with castmates Julia Voth and Ron Melendez. America will be returning to the Mediterranean very soon for her own wedding to Christian Campbell, brother of actress Neve Campbell. Actually, Neve will be assuming the role of "best woman" for her brother's nuptials. Check America out of the June cover of Playboy, along with her 6 page pictorial in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Playmate of the Year Issue. When I asked her if she took it all off, she assured, "I didn't put anything on to begin. There are lots of astro pops, bubble gum, and pearl necklaces involved." Down boys! She also divulged to me that she opens up about losing her virginity in front of the Vatican in Rome, not exactly what the Pope wants to hear!

"The Twilight Saga: New Moon" hottie Alex Meraz displayed his best break dancing moves as he entered into the affair. Still overcome with excitement for being the chosen one to play the role of Paul in the flick, he declared, "They picked me!" and joked, "I want to say for my dashing good looks." His inspiration for doing the movie? His wife because she urged him to go to the open audition after she got hooked on the series. Smart lady! "Twilight" fans, listen up, he promised, "I google and see what the fans are not liking from the movie and some of the things that they are worried about will be put to rest and they are going to be ecstatic!" You will know the truth come this November 20th. Alex is ready for the media storm and attention surrounding the release. Good luck!

Chickenfoot Rocking Out

What do you get when you take a scorching Sammy Hagar, mix in some guitar shredding Joe Satriani (or Smokin' Joe, as Hagar lovingly referred to him), toss in bass master Michael Anthony of Van Halen, and top it all off with some banging drum beats from Red Hot Chili Pepper Chad Smith? You get Chickenfoot, one of the self proclaimed "super groups," members of various well established rock bands coming together and jamming. Although a band is formed, you will still hear the individual style that each member is known for. For example, Anthony and Hagar pulling out the Van Halenesque hard rock, Smith and his funky Chili Pepper drum beats, and guitar virtuoso Satriani's penchant for the legato technique. That and a shot of the blues.

I caught the band last night at The Roxy on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood. Between Cabo Wabo tequila shots and girls decked out in accompanying straw cowboy hats, you kind of had the feeling you were South of the border minus the Swine Flu and sunburn. The guys joked around a lot on stage. After an explicative laden speech by Sammy, Chad (my second Chili Pepper in a week!) asked Sammy when he started swearing, to which Sammy responded, "My Mom was swearing with me in the womb!" Later he mentioned to Chad that the RHCP "don't give you no f*$#*%g mic!" Sammy also told the story of how he met Chad 6 years ago when Chad strolled into Sammy's bar in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico named Cabo Wabo, took 2 tequila shots with Hagar, and then Hagar promptly asked him if he would like to go on stage right then and there and perform. Chad accepted and they have been friends ever since.

Teens helping teens. This was the message last night at The Bash, the inaugural charity event held at Crustacean Beverly Hills and organized by local teens, which benefited the teens at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. The night kicked off with a charity fashion show displaying clothes provided by Fred Segal Fun and styled by Niki Shadrow. DJ Steve Aoki hit the turn tables and singer Nikki Costa performed to a full house.

Many celebrities came out to show their support for the hospital and the work the teens did to put The Bash together. Actress Monique Coleman was impressed with the meaning behind the event and relayed, "It's essential because teens don't realize there are things they can do at their age to make a big difference. And they are making a difference." Also, she remarked, "I am excited to meet Rumer Willis!" "The Shield" star Michael Chiklis was beaming as he spoke of his daughter Autumn who sits on the board of the charity. He praised, "I am so proud of her and I am going to embarrass her because I am her father. These kids are creating an example."

Singer Deborah Gibson joked, "Send me the royalty check!" when asked if she would support another crooner remaking one of her classic hits. Who can she see doing this? She proposed Taylor Swift because she thinks, "Taylor could do a killer country version of 'Lost in Your Eyes.' Not a bad idea, Deborah. Taylor, are you reading this? Gibson is working on a new album that will be a mix of dance, rock, & pop.

Speaking of musicians, Red Hot Chili Peppers front man Anthony Kiedis was absolutely glowing at the mere mention of his son, Everly Bear. As he showed me the picture of his little bear on his cell phone, he assured, "Being a Dad is the greatest thing ever. Life is interesting and exciting and painful and challenging and then you have a kid and that is when your real life begins. It's incredible. You wake up and you have a reason." So what if his son comes home one day and informs Kiedis that he would like to play music? Kiedis said, "I won't be surprised because he is already playing music. Of course, whatever he wants to do I will help him out." And as far as the Red Hot Chili Peppers coming together anytime soon? Anthony informed that, "We are doing other things, but when we hear the call of the wild to come back and play, we will." I hope that call comes soon!

Escorted by daughter Hailey, "America's Got Talent" judge David Hasselhoff towered over the giggling teenage girls as he made his way down the Red Carpet. In a self-reflective mood, he disclosed about life in the spotlight, "We were all out of control and running around in our teens, it's just that when you are a celebrity it is highlighted. In fact, when you are 56 years old and David Hasselhoff it is highlighted. Hailey is actually a good influence on me and I am actually a good influence on her. We try to keep each other in check by telling one another the truth by saying, 'Hey Dad, this is not cool.' And I say, 'I know, Hailey, this is not cool.' We are not really put in this world to be role models. We try to be a role model to ourselves first and then if you can take care of yourself and you know what is right and wrong and you don't self-indulge it's OK. It's a lesson you go through your whole life learning." His summer plans include journeying to Ireland to find a "Hassel Castle" and a big announcement in 4 weeks of a possible reality show. Red Carpet Roxy's 2 rescued mutts

I am so thankful for my babies, my fur babies that is, and they happen to both be rescues from a New York City based no kill organization called Earth Angels Canine Rescue, run by the tireless Emelinda Narvaez. Sure, sometimes they like to jump on me when I am rushing out the door and dressed for a night out and can rip a newspaper to shreds in under 2 seconds but they are truly the most loyal dogs. The love and companionship they provide is irreplaceable. Although they now enjoy the sun and surf of Southern California, both of my 80 lb. and 99 lb. doggies fit into my 1 bedroom New York City apartment with no problem. And thanks to people like Emelinda and others, adopting pets is user-friendly and extremely rewarding.

The ASPCA estimates that 70 million cats alone live on the streets and most strays are lost pets who weren't kept properly indoors or with no identification. Also, only 10% of the strays coming into shelters have been spayed or neutered. Sadly, 5 out of 10 dogs and 7 out of 10 cats that come in to shelters never make it out and are euthanized because no one adopts them.

Basically, pet adoption saves animals and rocks! After all, when has your significant other been that excited to see you when you come home? Do you have any good animal rescue stories?

Fashionistas were out in full force this afternoon in support of Friendly House and the Fashion For Life 2009 event, sponsored by the Annenberg Foundation, Kellwood Company, and California Market Center, honoring designer David Meister with the Vision Award for his contributions to style. Also on the agenda for the party-a fashion show with Fall designs by Meister, Trina Turk, Ina Soltani, Single, Fremont, and Paige Premium Denim. The ladies were decked out in their best Meister fashions and compliments flowed from guests about his alluring pieces that graced the Red Carpet.

Madeline Zima looked delightful in a peach strapless knee length David Meister and praised the designer's clothes as "easy to wear, comfortable, and well constructed." Oscar Nominee for "Doubt," Viola Davis in a hot pink Meister creation stated, "David did really good by me with the SAG Awards dress." Still reeling from her whirlwind year, she mentioned that "This is what every actor dreams of. I have to get used to all of the attention." Melora Hardin, who just premiered her directorial debut "You," proclaimed,"David is amazing. I wear his dresses all of the time." In a classic black David Meister dress, Valerie Bertinelli declared, "I am always wearing his dresses. I love every single one of his styles." She is focusing on her latest project-her new talk show-and will take some time to relax this summer.

Celebrity stylist Anya Sarre, the host of "Look for Less" on "The Insider," was beautiful in a one shouldered floral print David Meister look. Asked why David's fashions are so in demand, she revealed to me, "David is all about the fit of the dress. There are not enough David Meister dresses to go around Hollywood!" A pro on how to look lovely while still maintaining a budget, Anya advised 3 steps to get Red Carpet ready without breaking the bank: 1. Shop the sale racks, because there are so many items on sale now a days. 2. Spend more on the dress, but less on accessories. Case in point, Anya accessorized her dress today with sassy dangle earrings from H&M. 3. Reuse and recycle pieces that you already have in your closet. As for new projects, Anya was tight lipped but promised me that "You will be the first to know. I will give you the exclusive!" Sounds good to me. You can catch Anya daily on "The Insider."

Host Melissa Rivers, fresh from her appearance on "Celebrity Apprentice," was still overjoyed about her mother's win on the show. She gushed, "That night everyone was congratulating me. I felt like the mother of the bride!" She continued, "Celebrity Apprentice was like a master class in producing for me. It was like film school." About Friendly House's mission to aid women in recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction, Melissa said, "I have done stuff for Friendly House before and there by the grace of God go I to not have an addiction problem. Anytime that I can help people that don't means to get sober on their own, I am there."

The man of the hour, honoree and celebrity designer David Meister was inspired to support the work of Friendly House. He reinforced, "This is very exciting and it is such a good cause. You need to give back and support an organization that empowers women." So who is his dream Red Carpet client? One word-"Angelina. I've met her once before and she leaves you breathless!"

The smell of fresh waffles and champagne wafted onto Robertson Boulevard in L.A. last night, as Moods of Norway opened shop in America. Tradition was on full display as Scandinavian gods and goddess dressed in their best Moods creations (very bold, colorful patterns and lots of plaid) circulated around the room, speaking in their native tongue, sipping bubbly and sampling waffles pressed by a Norwegian Grandmother in the courtyard out back. As I made my rounds, I bumped into Perez Hilton, sporting a red and gold Moods of Norway track jacket, who couldn't get enough of the goods. He recounted to me that he had worn Moods to the MTV Video Music Awards last year and the year before that. He had his eye on one particular design, a suit jacket with a floral print that he wanted to wear on "a special occasion." Be on the lookout!

After a quick bite at Spanish Kitchen, a Michael Buble spotting with a new blond gal pal in tow, and a margarita (or 2! Don't worry, I was not driving), it was off to the opening of Jane's House, a new Hollywood hot spot. Housed in the old Memphis restaurant space on Hollywood Boulevard, the Moet & Chandon champagne flowed and the music bellowed as celebrities like Jaime Pressly from "My Name is Earl" and Bridget Marquardt, host of "Bridget's Beaches," ensconced on the patio of the Victorian style house and chatted with friends, enjoying the balmy evening. Jane's House exudes a very comfortable and inviting feel, sure to be a hit on those warm summer nights. Owners Kimoon Kim and Katie Matthews devised the concept for the bar based on their infamous weekend barbecues at their Hancock Park home. Really it was the same group of friends, just different location. And less clean up.

Red Carpet Roxy's "Look of the Week" takes us down to the Southwest by way of France, namely the design house of Hermes and their Spring 2009 Ready to Wear Collection. This Mexican inspired cowgirl look returns me to my Texas roots and the days of wearing multi-colored Mexican dresses, playing with Kachina dolls, and of course donning my staple cowboy boots. Guess what? Those elements are back this season, so plan on seeing lots of color, fringe, and turquoise decorative accents on pieces from purses to dresses to shoes. Makes me want to book that return trip to Mexico. Damn that Swine Flu!

It was a celebration of the seals last night at Zune L.A. as "America's Next Top Model" dashing judge, Nigel Barker, and the Humane Society of the United States hosted a showing of Nigel's exhibit called "A Sealed Fate?" documenting the short-lived lives of baby harp seals slaughtered during the annual Canadian seal hunt. Many of the celebrities who attended vocalized their support for the cause as well as updates on their lives.

Concerning the recent nuptials of fellow co-stars on "The Hills" Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, Brody Jenner joked, "Good for them. I think it has been the 3rd or 4th or 5th wedding they have had." And on Spencer's recent Twitter bash of Lauren Conrad, Brody continued, "That sounds like Spencer." Brody's girlfriend, actress Jayde Nicole agreed, "He does that to everyone all the time. So it's like normal."

Dazzling in a sparkly Robert Rodriguez dress that captured the light, Carmen Electra reminisced about the fun she had on "Dancing with the Stars," but not as an actual contestant, just as a one time dancer. She said, "My heart goes out to the contestants. I don't think I could put myself in that position. I am too sensitive. I would probably cry." On her recent engagement, "I feel like an expert because I have been married a few times." But she says she doesn't want "any pressure" to set a date so she can enjoy this time.

A svelte Khloe Kardashian is getting pumped to star alongside her sister Kourtney in a spin off show from "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" set in Miami. Both recently broke up with their boyfriends and are ready to meet new men! Men-get your best game on because Khloe is officially on the lookout, "I am looking forward to all of the men. I don't care what color. Just give me them. All of them!" What you don't know that she divulged to me is that she will be hosting her own weekly radio show called "Khloe After Dark" on Y100 in Miami. So set your radios!

The night took a more serious turn as Nigel Barker assumed the stage and voiced his beliefs about his passion which is protecting seals from the barbaric slaughter they are made to endure in an annual seal hunt that continues in Canada-but hopefully not for long. And the celebrities in attendance were in agreement and admiration for all that Nigel and the Humane Society have done in creating awareness of this issue.

The Canadian seal hunt is the largest marine mammal slaughter on our planet. In fact, up to 250,000 seals were killed in a matter of 4-5 days. Nigel was filming in Canada for two and a half weeks, and of the footage he shot, only 5% of it was usable because the remaining 95% was so cruel and disturbing he feared that audiences wouldn't watch it. Actually, part of the challenge for him was to edit the documentary into a version that the audiences could withstand viewing. He disclosed to me, "I saw many, many seals and I mean hundreds in a space of a few hours that were being skinned that weren't actually dead when they were being skinned. They were just knocked on the head and they were still wriggling around and they were skinning them. They were trying to hold them with their foot and trying to skin them alive and they would roll off without their fur."

You would think that this type of incriminating footage, once placed in the hands of Canadian authorities, would warrant criminal charges against these fishermen, right? Wrong! According to Nigel, because the fishermen are committing these atrocities on the ice and not on land, "they don't fine them, they don't take away their licenses, they just ignore them." In fact, the Canadians brought a court case against the Humane Society for this "incriminating footage" in which the Humane Society won "hands down."

So why does Canada continue to support this barbaric hunt? Nigel was adamant, "This isn't an anti-Canada thing, because it does go on in other parts of the world. But perhaps they have been pushed into a corner and they feel like the world is telling them what to do. In this world, there might be a line that says this is Canada and this is America, but I think that animals belong to the world."

The ironic thing is that the seal hunt isn't even a large financial incentive for Canada. According to Patricia Ragan, Director of the Protect Seals Team, the hunt is only worth $7 million. She also shared with me, "the Canadian seafood industry into the United States is worth $2 billion a year." Which is why the Humane Society has taken economic action in an attempt to get their point across to the Canadian government by calling on a boycott of all Canadian seafood. Since the boycott began in 2005, "the value of Canadian seafood imports (that have been boycotted) total $750 million." That's a pretty large chunk of change. And Humane Society is planning on inviting the citizens of European Union to join the protest against Canadian seafood as well.

Dr. John Grandy, Senior Vice President of Wildlife and Habitat Protection at the Humane Society, was vigilant about continuing on in order to halt the hunt even with the recent victories around the world. Those victories include: the European Union's ban on the buying and selling of all seal products in every European nation, the Russian ban on the killing of harp seals under the age of 1, and the passing of the U.S. Senate resolution unanimously condemning the Canadian seal hunt. But don't think the HSUS will relax on this issue. In fact, Dr. Grady reinforced, "These are steps on the way to the end. We have to redouble our efforts."

The compelling reactions to the seal slaughter of many of the guests at the party defined the message of the evening. Animal lover Brody Jenner communicated his frustrations," (the hunt) makes me want to club those people who club the seals. They should be treated exactly how you want to be treated and not slaughtered for their fur." Canadian Jayde Nicole explained, "For Northern Canadians, it has been a way of life. But as generations get older and everyone starts to see the new way and how wrong it is, I believe it will eventually be banned." Carmen Electra confessed, "it's really easy day by day to worry about yourself and I think it is wonderful that Nigel has shot not only a documentary but photographs to help raise awareness so that people know what is going on and help make changes." Khloe Kardashian remarked, "I love how I can bring awareness to animal causes. The clubbing of baby seals on a daily basis is something I never even thought of until they brought it to my attention. It doesn't make sense."

Dynamic duo and Co-Hosts of the soiree, Max Lugavere and Jason Silva of Emmy Award winning Current TV echoed the interests of the party-goers. Max stated,"When we heard what Nigel has done with his photos and documentary, we were just really taken aback that he chose to walk the walk whereas many celebrities would just put their name on something for the press opp that it entails." Jason added, "And also the whole issue of bringing awareness to things like this is very much in line with what we embody and do everyday, working for Current which is extremely socially conscious, cutting edge. A generation of people that want to communicate and want to talk about the things that matter to them. And also giving a voice to the voiceless and there is no better example of the voiceless than these seals."

So what can the public do? Boycott Canadian seafood. Ask your restaurant managers, fishmongers, waiters, friends, or anyone handling fish you might purchase or consume where it comes from. If they don't know its origins, don't buy it. Grady says that the boycott is "the biggest thing that an individual can do in America."

Ultimately, Nigel and the HSUS would be elated to turn this unique seal nursery into eco-tourism for Canada where visitors could observe and learn from these majestic creatures in their natural habitat, much like what Canada did when the country outlawed commercial whaling and transformed it into an extremely profitable attraction without harming the animals. That and of course, a definitive end to this senseless, barbaric hunt.

STK in West Hollywood, part of the One Group of restaurants, turned 1 last night in a celebrity filled bash, complete with vodka cocktails and a selection of STK appetizers. As I stepped inside, "Entourage" cutie Rex Lee was chilling on the patio in front of the step and repeat. The flash bulb frenzy went off as soon as Tori Spelling, looking svelte in a purple mini dress complete with brown stillettos, and her hubby Dean Mc Dermott cruised in and assumed their dinner table. The always adorable and super friendly Taryn Manning and Tara Jane of Born Uniqorn were attempting to reach the front of the bar, which was now slammed, in order to get a cocktail. Courtney Cox Arquette and David Arquette seemed comfortable at table #1 dining on some of their favorites. Kim Kardashian arrived at the party fresh from a performance earlier of "American Idol" contestants. My friend, celebrity fashion designer Lloyd Klein disclosed that he was excited about his new reality show, premiering in the fall and his possible participation in the A-List Communications produced STYLE360 fashion extravaganza in New York City during Fashion Week in September. Other notable celeb attendees: Regina King in a form fitting black dress, P-Diddy protege Farnsworth Bentley, Lance Bass with a posse in tow, towering lovely Natasha Henstridge, and "Dancing with the Stars" dancers and real-life partners Maksim Chemerkovskiy and Karina Smirnoff posing for the paps as they made their exit.

Love was definitely in the air this past Saturday evening at the 2009 Noche de Ninos Gala held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills benefiting the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Celebrities from Jennifer Lopez escorted by husband Marc Anthony to "Entertainment Tonight's" Mary Hart stepped out, lent their voices, and showed love and support for the children and the tireless work that the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, a teaching hospital that never turns a child away, does in order to help and heal their young patients. Founded in 1901, the institution has had a long standing history of helping the sickest of children and is regarded as one of the exceptional leaders in field of pediatric research.

"Bratz: The Movie" star and USC Trojan as of next fall, Nathalia Ramos was delighted to help the hospital and "speak out and make my voice heard and tell the world what an incredible place this is and the things that they do. I will always be there." Similarly, "High School Musical Star" Monique Coleman remembered when she was hospitalized at a young age and that "being a celebrity is nothing unless you use it for good." Also, 7 year old piano prodigy Emily Bear was preparing to play her song, "Tomorrow's Wishes" at the gala and spoke about her participation in recognition of the hospitalized children,"so they can get better and feel like me too." Shoe designer Taryn Rose, clad in a Spanish inspired Oscar De La Renta dress, was present to revere the doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital as she trained as an orthopedic surgeon at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and said being at the event was like "a family reunion. I am here to honor them."

Some stars took to heart the youngest victims of cancer and vowed that their own children would learn the lessons of philanthropy. A glowing Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon declared, I love this charity! They have made it a beautiful, uplifting place." She also affirmed that she teaches her offspring, "Compassion for human beings and kindness." Another set of parents who are showing their children how to help others are Annette Bening and Warren Beatty. Annette's dedication was obvious, "Childrens Hospital Los Angeles is a gem. (Philanthropy) is something that (our children) are interested in and they are a part of." On starring in another movie with her husband, Annette smiled and added, "I hope so." Maybe a sequel to "Love Affair?"

However serious the subject matter, there was still room for a few laughs. Alex Meneses ("Everybody Loves Raymond") a co-chair of the party and a trustee on the hospital's board communicated her ultimate vision for the work they do was "To have no more pain for children." Asked if "Everybody Loves Raymond" was turned into a movie, would she join the cast? Without hesitation, she shot back, "I'd be thrilled! Where do I sign?" In addition, Faran Tahir of "Star Trek" was reminded about the families dealing with a sick child and that "we can all be there in spirit and this is a small way to show them support." Questioned about a funny instance that occurred on the "Star Trek" set, he divulged to me, "The uniform was so tight they literally sewed it on me. I wouldn't eat out of vanity because everything showed! I have a new appreciation for women." Noah Wylie, star of "ER," had just returned from a month's long vacation in Italy where he consumed so much pasta and wine that he jokingly remarked he was "wearing a girdle." But he maintained that Childrens Hospital Los Angeles was a "cultural landmark" and that his mother who was was a nurse "would have broken my arm if I hadn't turned up tonight."

Jewel descended upon the Red Carpet ready for her performance that night and to chat about her collection of lullabies. She penned them when she was 18 years old and homeless and expressed these songs "calmed her down" during those trying times. She also referred to her husband, rodeo champ Ty Murray, and his achievements on "Dancing with the Stars", as "Pretty amazing. The cowboy that could. It has been a once in a lifetime opportunity." But don't think that Ty and Jewel practice the dances at home. After the grueling "7 AM to 9 PM practices, Ty wants to go to bed" for some well deserved rest. Jewel is about to launch a West Coast tour promoting her album, "Lullaby" with the tour kicking off July 17th in Mesa, Arizona and ending July 31st in Portland, Oregon.

"Courage to Care" Honoree, Jamie Lee Curtis donned a pink bobbed wig in memory of her friend, Katie Westbrook, who unfortunately succumbed to cancer at the young age of 14. Jamie Lee honored her late friend by echoing Katie's own words,"Look at me. Don't turn away. Help me. Come join me in the fight." Jamie Lee continued, "I am going to join you Katie. I am going to take you everywhere I go." Mrs. Curtis was elated to have Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, her dear friend and co-star in "True Lies," present her with the "Courage to Care" award, verbalizing that it was one of "the greatest honors of my life."

Concluding the evening, actor Christopher MacDonald of the soon to be released "The Best and the Brightest," summed it up perfectly when he proclaimed his reasons for attending the gala as, "Love of children. Love of life. Love of this brilliant hospital."

RED CARPET ROXY'S "RED ALERT OF THE WEEK"-MAY 11, 2009

The "Red Alert" this week celebrates a victory for seals. Just last week the European Parliament voted to outlaw the buying or selling of seal products in all 27 nations of the EU from the commercial seal slaughter, as reported by the ProtectSeals team. This is a huge victory for seals as the EU was one of the world's top markets for seal products. After several years of providing documentation and the testimony of key witnesses to the cruel slaughter, a declaration was introduced and then a vote of 550 MEP's in favor to only 49 against (41 abstained.) And the ProtectSeals team couldn't have done this without the public's help. Hopefully, this is another huge step in halting this barbaric practice worldwide once and for all.

Spring has officially sprung in New York City which means one thing. It's time for The Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in heart of Manhattan. Held on May 4th, this year's theme was "The Model As Muse" with honorary chair designer Marc Jacobs and co-chairs supermodel Kate Moss, singer Justin Timberlake, and "Vogue" Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

Actress Diane Kruger stood out from the other party-goers and displayed a flair for springtime fashion as she hit the Red Carpet in a Chanel haute couture mini dress accessorized with a bracelet, brooch, and ring all by Chanel Fine Jewelry. Her look is fresh, fun, and sexy-perfect to usher in springtime in New York. Only a couple of weeks until Memorial Day and opening weekend in the Hamptons!

Even the rare windstorm in Los Angeles tonight didn't halt the stars and dancers from sashaying down the Red Carpet at the Arclight Hollywood for the premiere of "Love N' Dancing" presented by Screen Media Films and The Creative Coalition, starring Amy Smart, Tom Malloy, Betty White, and Billy Zane amongst other talented actors. It also features award-winning Swing Dance Champions and "So You Think You Can Dance" winner Benji Schwimmer. Just as the wind picked up, the stars came rolling down the Red Carpet with their hair blowing in all different directions, trying to keep their clothes in place, but they couldn't have been more enthusiastic about their film.

With the recent passing of renowned actress Bea Arthur, the wounds were still fresh for Betty White. She reminisced about her close confidant,"(Bea was) my dearest friend. She was such a talent. She has left such a hole. Everybody appreciated her. That's the nice part." After "they called me and offered me the part," Betty enjoyed filming this romantic comedy in Albuquerque in "the beautiful country."

The star of one of the original medical dramas on television, handsome Gregory Harrison of "Trapper John, MD" spoke fondly about his days on the "Love N' Dancing" set. When I queried if there was ever to be a remake of his old show, would he be game to don his scrubs and join the cast? He jestingly urged, "Better hurry up and do it before we all drop dead because it has been awhile! It would be fun." The clock is ticking!

Not surprisingly, another dancing themed production was on people's minds-"Dancing with the Stars." In fact, star/writer/producer of "Love N' Dancing," Tom Malloy hedged his bet about DWTS, "I think this year Gilles is going to win, or Melissa. It's tougher for a guy to be able to lead and he can lead." He continued on, "I think next year Tom Malloy is going to win! We'll see!" Is that a hint? I questioned him about who would be his ideal partner and he responded,"Lacey Schwimmer because she is the West Coast Swing Champion and I think we could kill it! I can do a lot better than Steve-O by the way!" He sounds serious!

A Michael Kors clad Leila Arcieri reinforced that she would be up for the challenge of "Dancing with the Stars." Her perfect partner would be the "sexy Latin one. Bring him on! I want one of those!" You said it sister! Up next for Arcieri, a television show in the works centering around 4 hot girls in the city which marries beauty, sex, fashion, and entertainment and "showing some skin." Sounds strangely familiar, but the way she explaining it to me made me feel like there could be a few unexpected twists and turns. Stay tuned.....

Amy Smart, who modeled a sexy Halston mini dress promised, "you can do this (West Coast Swing) dance to any kind of music. Whatever you like, you can dance this dance to." Even though Amy had previously "been a ballerina for 10 years," she "worked really hard" and that the dancing "toned me up." In addition to being extremely excited about her starring role in "Love N' Dancing," she will find out next week if her new television show "See Kate Run" will be picked up for the new season. Fingers crossed!

With a soundtrack provided by Scarlett Pomers and Chicago's own Bihlman Bros., Director Robert Iscove's desired outcome for the film is clear, "Hopefully, it will be the next 'Dirty Dancing.'" Those are some big dancing shoes to fill! Let the dance begin!

Swine Flu Masked Tennis in Action!

Leave it up to former SNL cast member Will Ferrell to assemble a grouping of comical characters like he did this past Saturday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center at UCLA for a charity fundraiser he hosted to benefit the Swedish School of Los Angeles, a non-profit Swedish cultural school. From tennis judge Andy Richter (and former sidekick of Conan O'Brien) to doubles opponent Rainn Wilson of "The Office" the day was not short on hilarity, ridicule, and bantering from all of the opponents.

Will began the game with a swine flu mask on as he ex-pro Mats Wilander hit the ball back and forth between one another. International Tennis Hall of Famer Mats Wilander, a former World number one who shares the distinction with a select few to have won Grand Slam singles titles on grass, hard and clay courts, happily played on as Will and Andy tossed Swedish and religious jokes his way as well as to each other.

Rainn Wilson assumed the court decked out in a sweat headband as well as a T-shirt that read, "QUIET PLEASE." His doubles partner for the day was former UCLA Bruin and 1998 Austrailian and French Open Mixed Doubles Winner (with Venus Williams) Justin Gimelstob. As the day continued, both Wilson and Ferrell made the most of their non-professional tennis days by laying down (literally) on the court while Wilander and Gimelstob played around them. At the end of the match, the Ferrell/Wilander team claimed victory.

Off to the backyard BBQ on a neighboring court we went, where sponsored beverages Coke, Patron Tequila, and Rose's Mojito Cocktails were poured quite generously as party-goers reveled in the outcome of the match and listened to the sounds of a Ferrell inspired cover band whose main mission was to entertain the audience with SNL type skits and by singling people out for harmless poking. It was here that Will and Viveca Ferrell presented Swedish School honoree Mats Wilander with the Viking Award. A Swedish ball had by all!

Unfortunately, this photo speaks volumes about what is happening with polar bears in our world today. Due to factors like climate changes, global warming, poaching, and illegal trade, they have been placed on the threatened species list by the IUCN-The World Conservation Union and the U.S. Endangered Species Act (ESA). Many in the conservation community believe that if these trends continue, polar bears will become extinct in the next 100 years.

With a significant amount of polar ice melting in the Arctic due to global warming, this causes an enormous threat and devastation for the polar bears as they are dependent on this ice so they can hunt their prey. Oftentimes, polar bears simply drown from exhaustion in a fruitless attempt to find the ice that has already melted. These large carnivores are a good indicator of the rest of the eco-system in that region as they are very sensitive to changes.

According to the WWF's website, "Some scientists have predicted that the summer Arctic sea ice could be gone entirely as early as 2013.“Based on the best available science, if current sea ice trends continue, two-thirds of the world’s polar bears will be lost by 2050,” said Geoffrey York, coordinator of WWF’s Polar Bear Conservation Program."

The World Wildlife Fund has set out to protect the polar bears by meeting with leading conservationists in the world, researching the polar bears with their teams of scientists, tracking polar bears, and contacting government officials about the issue. When you think of Tony Parker and Eva Longoria Parker what comes to mind? Most likely a glamorous, high profile, in demand, seemingly down to Earth celebrity couple with fabulous friends and an affinity for margaritas, my home state of Texas, and each other? However, all of the fuss of day to day life in Hollywood was put aside for one of Eva's favorite causes-children-and specifically, children with cancer. Last night, Eva graciously hosted The Rally for Kids with Cancer kickoff party presented by Wonderwall.com from MSN at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, benefitting Children's Hospital Los Angeles and PADRES Contra El Cancer (Parents Against Cancer with whom Eva has had a long time association). The main goal of this charitable event is to raise much needed funds in search of a cure for cancer, by having a scavenger hunt in which driver choose a celebrity and they make their way around Los Angeles hitting various pit stops and earning points in the process. Make no mistake-this night was special.

The energy was palpable as celebrity guests made their way down the Red Carpet adorned with race cars and made merriment while lending their support. Chris Ashworth of "Terminator Salvation" and "The Wire," was very excited to be a part of this special evening for children as well as his villainous role in the upcoming "Terminator Salvation" as Richter. When asked about Christian Bale's infamous meltdown on set, he contended that Christian was "really nice guy that just had a bad day." Yikes-I would hate to be in the receiving end of that kind of a tongue lashing! Listen up all you "The Wire" fans-he broke news to me that it might get made into a movie! So keep on the lookout!

Singer and "Dancing with the Stars" veteran Mario couldn't have been more pleased about being present for this charity. I queried him as to who he his rooting for on "DWTS" and he responded,"I am rooting for Lil Kim right now." He also revealed to me, "I hurt myself a couple of times on the show, but I never really showed it during the show." Tough guy! He is looking forward to his new album, "And Then There Was Me" which drops in late summer, with the first single called "Break Up." And as Mario indicated about the message of his song, "It's summertime baby, so why would you want to break up?"

Brenda Strong, Eva's fellow cast member on "Desperate Housewives," joyfully posed on the race cars that lined the Red Carpet. She affirmed, "I have supported PADRES in the past. Rallying to get behind kids, so they can afford very expensive cancer treatments." This cause has been very important to her. When questioned about the reports in which one of the Season 1 characters would be setting up house again on Wisteria Lane, she grinned and mentioned she wouldn't mind welcoming back Roger Bart who played the creepy dentist, George Williams, once engaged to Bree. Stay tuned!

Boyishly charming and quick witted Zachary Levi who plays the title role of "Chuck," gushed about his good friend Eva. In fact, he was friends with Eva before her exponential success and he stood firm saying that she hasn't changed and has always wanted to make a difference. When I inquired if 6'4" Zach had ever played Tony Parker in a game of one on one basketball, he orated that he hadn't but, "I'd like to. That would be a cool idea. One on one raising funds for cancer research. I'm gonna work on that and get back to you!" Great idea Zach-let me know what you come up with. He also revealed to me that he had a "bucket list moment" when he went to the NBA All Star Game in Phoenix this past year. He expounded, "Tony ushered me onto the court during warm ups. I didn't join in because I didn't want to make a complete fool of myself." Definitely a highlight he will never forget. Oh yeah he also had plenty of "PG-13" fun while in Phoenix! Use your imagination.

Never short on commentary, actor and reality show veteran Stephen Baldwin made no qualms that he wants Jesse James to win "Celebrity Apprentice." He admits, "Clint's cool, but he ain't no Jesse James!" Don't hold back Stephen! He is getting ready to travel to Costa Rica where he will join the cast of, "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here" and he vowed, "I am pretty sure that once (the show) is over, I will be officially retiring from reality television." You heard it here first-now let's see if he keeps his word. Baldwin will be starring in an independent movie called "To the Wall" set for release in early Fall.

Uber popular celebrity couple and doting parents Gene Simmons, fresh from being on tour with KISS in South America, and Shannon Tweed revved up the the arrival line once they made their appearance. Echoing the shared sentiments of most of the party goers about cancer, Gene reflected, "It's not a fair disease," and they continue to keep their children involved with charity so they appreciate what they have and never forget those who don't. "Family Jewels" which depicts their day to day life in front of the cameras and being one of my favorite shows, I pondered how they managed to keep the show so entertaining while maintaining the strength of their family unit. Shannon answered,"Editing. The editors take the best part of the days and make a show out of it." Gene responded,"We're blessed. We like each other and you can't hide that." Quizzed if Gene would be involved in any other wild business ventures like when he tried to capture and sell bull semen, Shannon jokingly surmised,"(After bull semen) you can only go up from there" to which Gene shot back,"Get it? Up (as in erection) from there?" These two are perfect for one another! I requested what they would want in life for their own children and Shannon replied,"Lots of philanthropy, charity, hard work, a great love life and I won't go into the grown up stuff, but lots of that too!" Are they not some of the coolest parents?

The lady of the hour and hostess of the shindig, a glowing Eva Longoria Parker, complemented by her handsome San Antonio Spur husband Tony Parker, descended upon the Red Carpet amidst a flash bulb frenzy. Always close to one another side's, the power duo made their way down the Red Carpet as they lovingly kissed and posed for pictures. Eva then stepped out and vocalized her purpose for the evening,"I love philanthropy and I think it is our responsibility to give a voice to those that don't have one." When asked about what she knew now that she was married, that she didn't know before she got hitched, Eva joked,"Oh God, I knew everything before I was married! Just kidding!" Hmmm, I wonder if Tony would agree with that? Way to go Eva on a night dedicated to serving the children.

Never one to shy away from the daring and edgy, darling Kate stepped up to the plate once again last night at the 100th Anniversary of beloved jeweler Cartier (at Cartier's private mansion in New York City) in a super sexy cutout dress by Rachel Roy accented with a Cartier diamond and onyx panther necklace. To die for! Hair loose and down, red nails, and St. Tropez tan made Kate look like she was ready for a night to tear into the Big Apple and leave a trail of victims behind her!

Brrrrr!! I braved the chill of the evening last night (why do I forget a coat when the step and repeat is outside??) decked in a beautiful dress by my friend Abi Ferrin as I made my way to the Beverly Hills Hotel for the Second Annual Television Academy Honors hosted by Dana Delaney of "Desperate Housewives." The objective of the ceremony is to recognize and honor eight special television programs in 2008 that present an enlightening and educational look at various social issues.

Ross Greenburg, President of HBO Sports," informed me of his honored documentary, "Breaking the Huddle," that the purpose was to "delve into the history of American sport" and show how the color barrier in college football was broken down. For the most part, he expressed that HBO Sports documentaries "dig deep into the social consciousness and try to come up with different ways to explain what we have been through as a nation." He affirmed,"you can always grab a story and inspire people." Well said. Look for new compelling documentaries on HBO Sports, including a look at the life of Boston Red Sox MVP and Baseball Hall of Famer Ted Williams, and the tale of basketball legends Larry Bird and Earvin "Magic" Johnson which depicts them and their friendship and rivalry from each one's high school days through the Magic's AIDS controversy.

Kate Linder, sporting a golden Cache dress which matched her hair color perfectly, recounted that she has been acting as "Esther" on Young and the Restless" for over 27 years! When she isn't battling polygamist husbands and a mother that seemingly has risen from the grave on set, she dedicates her time to charitable causes, such as being the celebrity spokesperson for the ALS Association and sitting on the Television Cares Committee.

Semi-frozen now, I spoke next with gifted actor Joe Mantegna ("Criminal Minds") and presenter to honoree, tearjerker "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," who stated that one of the highlights of his long and impressive career was playing Dean Martin in "The Rat Pack," for which he received both an Emmy and a Golden Globe nomination. Acting remains fresh for him because he doesn't have a "wish list of roles" and he "never knows what's around the corner." In addition to his home on thriller "Criminal Minds," keep your eyes open for "Elvis and Anabelle" a movie he stars in alongside Max Minghella and Blake Lively, which has been making its rounds at various film festivals and will hopefully have a release date soon.

Animal rescuer, actress, and founder of Shambala-a sanctuary for large cats-Tippi Hedren was very vocal and demonstrative of her passion for animals and wildlife. She was in attendance to present an award to "Whale Wars" about spotlighting the tragic and cruel issue of whaling. She proclaimed to me, "I want to make sure all of the animals in the world are safe and well respected." In fact, she will be traveling to Washington D.C. next week to get a bill ready that will be attached to a federal ban on breeding exotic felines for personal possession, that she co-authored. Mind you, she has already had a bill signed by President Bush halting the interstate trafficking of these exotic animals for pets. A true voice for the animals.

Morgan Spurlock, whose program "30 Days" was being honored that evening, totally cracked me up. The purpose of his show was to place him in the life of another person for 1 month to show the differences and create an understanding of one another. Besides working in a coal mine which he said was the hardest job he has ever had to do hands down (try working in a dark, sweltering 4 foot high tunnel bent over carrying 50-100 pounds of material all day long), he also had the chance to go to prison. Not fun! When I asked him what was the craziest thing he experienced while being locked up (no hotel stays here!) he divulged it was when fellow inmate and "tranny Monica would ask him everyday if he needed his back washed in the shower." Safe to say he had a dirty back! Incidentally, he still keeps in contact with his prison roommate, George, a petty thief that has lived his whole life in an out of jail. Still curious about his "Supersize Me" days, I quizzed him about how long it took him to lose the weight he had gained during that documentary. He responded, "14 months....it was hard to get it off and keep it off-especially the last 5 pounds!" Welcome to a woman's world Mr. Man! As a matter of fact, his own Mom declared, "Congratulations! Now you know how every woman feels!"

Teeth completely chattering at this point, I did get some juice from host of the evening's festivities, Dana Delaney about "Desperate Housewives." She mentioned that her character, Katherine, and Mike (James Denton) "are going to TRY to get married." Hmmm....sounds like Susan (Terri Hatcher) might have other ideas about this union! Dana is very fond of "Mad Men" and one of its stars, Jon Hamm, but who isn't? A little birdie (a secret I cannot reveal) from the "Mad Men" set told Dana "people TIVO the show and watch it before going to bed with their husbands and wives because it is such a turn on." Dana echoed the statement,"There are a couple of those episodes I have watched over and over again-alone!" Any Jon Hamm look a likes out there??

If you live anywhere near the Grauman's Mann Chinese Theater in Hollywood, you were sure to hear the howls (and I don't mean from Wolverine) emanating from the street last night as Twentieth Century Fox's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" made its Hollywood debut. The stars of the film as well as celebrity supporters of the flick descended upon the Red Carpet making it known how much they loved the "X-Men." If you are not familiar, in this installment Wolverine seeks out Victor Creed/Sabretooth for the death of his girlfriend while also defending himself as well as other mutants from those determined to rid the world of mutants all together. An epic showdown ensues-certainly a must see!

I engaged in a chat with the film's composer, Harry Gregson-Williams, who has scored such blockbusters as "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" and "Shrek the Third." He derived his musical inspiration from the film and said he became intensely familiar with the script. He also promised, "Even though fans think they know Wolverine, they can't possibly after what we show them." Oooh-I am already chomping at the claw in anticipation! Next up for Harry, "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time," starring Jake Gyllenhaal, for which he composed the music.

The ladies of the flick didn't disappoint. The actually seemed like tough but convivial women, especially on set. Tahyna Tozzi aka a young version of mutant Emma Frost, relayed to me that she really enjoyed doing her own stunts, even those that included explosions! She was bummed out that she didn't get any kissing scenes with any of the strapping men on set. Maybe next time! Also, Lynn Collins who plays Hugh Jackman's love interest in the movie, Kayla Silverfox, was decked out in a gorgeous orange Ungaro number complete with ice by H. Stern. She divulged to me that she would taunt her male costars with chocolate and candy on set as the boys were the ones on the diet! Gotta love that. Up next for Lynn is the soon to be released film, "Uncertainty," co-starring Joseph Gordon-Leavitt from "3rd Rock from the Sun."

Dapper Danny Huston garbed in a dark suit worked the crowd and spoke with me about his role as William Stryker, whose main mission is to rid the world of mutants-including Wolverine. Danny conferred with me that his character's inherit flaw is that he assumes he is doing right and it is his God given priviledge to carry on as he pleases. Hmmm, sounds familiar, no? Danny has a full plate as he is co-starring with Mel Gibson (beaming as he arrived at the premiere hand in hand with new galpal, composer Oksana Grigorieva, Timothy Dalton's ex) in the upcoming release, "Edge of Darkness" as well as taking on iconic figure Poseidon in a remake of "Clash of the Titans." Oh that is after he, "plans to have a few drinks (this evening) and wakes up with a hangover." Sounds like fun-is there extra room on your party bus?

Exuberant supporter of the movie, Jon Voight didn't hide his appreciation for the "X-Men" proclaiming, "I love this series!" His family lineage was obvious when I questioned him about which superpower he would choose to have in real life. He paused for a moment, and reflectively answered, "To translate all of the evil into the world into good." The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Also on hand for the big event were "X-Men" star Kelsey Grammer and wife Camille; the always avant garde Will.i.am (John Wraith) rocking silver space pants; Dominic Monaghan, otherwise known as mutant Bolt, was looking a long ways away from the island of "Lost;" screenwriter David Benioff accompanied by his beautiful other half Amanda Peet; director Gavin Hood; a raven haired Fergie (without handsome hubby Josh Duhamel-boo!); and Red Carpet stunner and fellow "X-Men" co-star, Halle Berry. Super-hottie Ryan Reynolds had a Scarlett-free evening, as he rolled solo down the Red Carpet posing for all of the flashing lights. Finally, a dashing Hugh Jackman, in true superhero form arrived in a blink, made a mad dash down the Red Carpet and in a flash, he was gone. Perhaps off to work on the next chapter?

RED CARPET ROXY'S "RED ALERT OF THE WEEK"-APRIL 27, 2009

The Red Alert this week takes us back to Kenya in Africa. Unfortunately, elephants as massive and imposing as they seem, are often no match for the poachers' snares. Elephants, particularly large elephants, are being killed for their ivory tusks.

Sadly, the African Government has legalized the sell of ivory in this region for the first time in 10 years. The ivory is exported to countries like China and Japan. And these tusks are worth money and lots of it-upwards of $1000 per tusk. According to this report, elephants are being poached at a rate of 45% more than last year.

The rampant poaching leaves many orphaned elephants to fend for themselves and without the proper nourishment within a matter of a day and knowledge of survival skills instilled by their parents, they are sure to die. Many times, the young elephants have watched their own mothers being slaughtered by poachers and do not want to leave her remains, stroking her body and still wanting to nurse. The trauma inflicted is extremely intense and the orphaned elephant can become despondent and do such things as bang and scrape his head against metal bars. Remarkably, these same elephants have an extreme capacity for forgiveness, but they never forget what has happened. Fortunately, there are people who are trying to help these orphaned elephants. Dame Daphne Sheldrick, a native of Kenya, is the founder of The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, an orphanage in Kenya dedicated to rescuing and teaching these elephants the necessary tools in preparation for re-integration into the wild. Celebrity doctors, from Dr. Drew to Dr. Phil, hit the Red Carpet last night at the 2009 Prism Awards, held at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The Prism Awards were designed to honor the accurate portrayal of substance use and addiction as well as mental health disorders. The program is produced by the Entertainment Industries Council, Inc. in collaboration with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and broadcast partner FX Network.

Prism Nominee Dr. Drew Pinsky seemed very pleased with the turnout for the event and echoed the message of the awards show in order to incite the powerful media to make more responsible choices when depicting the subject matter. He maintained that the reason he agreed to do "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew" was to show how ill the celebs really are and to show that rehab isn't a visit to the spa. If you have ever seen the show, between withdrawals and wig-outs, it certainly is no vacation.

Presenter Jay Harrington recounted stories from the set of "Better Off Ted," and advised that he and his co-star Portia Di Rossi have lots of fun together. He did feel a little weird about making out with Ellen DeGeneres' wife though. Is Ellen a better kisser? Coming up on the show, a Medieval fight club in the basement, complete with knights and princesses!

Taller than most, one of the stars of "Smallville," Cassidy Freeman verbalized that her summer plans included filming an independent horror flick called "Yellow Brick Road," with her brother in the Northeast. When questioned about sibling rivalry, she assured me that the only killing would be on set and not in their trailers as she and her bro definitely get along.

I really had a laugh with one of the stars of "Monk," Hector Elizando when he disclosed, "I don't know much about Hollywood, I just grow tomatoes. And bird watch." Refreshing-a celebrity that doesn't troll Robertson Boulevard in search of getting snapped by the paparazzi!

Andrea Bowen who we have watched grow up on "Desperate Housewives" conveyed that she has an album in the works. A sort of a folksy pop record that she is very passionate about. However, she remained tight lipped about any new tidbits on Wisteria Lane, unlike her sexy co-star, for fear that she might end up dead-on the show! She's fair game now as she portrays a 24 year old.

So much more charming and handsome in real life, Prism Nominee Bryan Cranston hit the Red Carpet ready to talk about his show, "Breaking Bad" on AMC. After we chatted about the party for the Season 2 Premiere of "Breaking Bad" , he advised me that his character, Walter H. White, is engrossed from trying to protect his family which is in jeopardy, to not being discovered for his illicit narcotics activities by his DEA agent brother-in-law, and hating his druggie partner's new gal pal. So what does Mr. Cranston do for fun after spending 13 hours on set in an emotionally intense role? Build an eco-friendly home in Ventura County of course! Go Green!

Dr. Miranda Bailey, aka Prism Nominee Chandra Wilson from "Grey's Anatomy" looked fantastic in a sparkly, gunmetal knee length dress by YS Designs. Smiling from ear to ear after she learned her show was getting picked up for another season, she informed me that the cast was still working on the last episode and the script pages were still coming. She offered that I could call her next Wednesday at 5:30 if I want to know what happens. Hmmm, I might have to take her up on that! Up next for Chandra-the Great White Way. Look for her this June as Mama Morton in "Chicago." Nervous, but definitely exuberant, she is already deep into preparations for her turn on Broadway.

Subsequently, I bumped into the last celebrity doc and Prism Nominee, Dr. Phil MacGraw. He was scurrying behind his wife, Robin, attempting to make it into the dinner before being noticeably late. He did greet me with hello and asked how I was doing. Time is short when you are on call and making your rounds at the Beverly Hills Hotel!

Happy Earth Day! There are so many stunning places on the Earth, like Lake Salda in Turkey displayed in the photo above. However, our planet is being destroyed by global warming.

According to NASA astrophysicists Robert Nemiroff and Jerry Bonnell, in the last 100 years the Earth's temperature has incresed by 1 degree celsius, which doesn't seem like that much but this shift is doing and will continue to do exponential damage to our world, like making sea levels rise above normal, precipitations patterns to become altered, and polar ice caps to melt.

The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) has determined that this mutation in temperature has been caused by human activity and abuse. On December 10, 2007 in Oslo, Norway, the IPCC along with former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore Jr. were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their pursuit of knowledge concerning man-made climate change.

The good news is making a difference doesn't have to be a challenge. It can be as easy as replacing grocery store plastic bags with recycleable, reusable totes, carpooling to work with co-workers, or using energy efficient, eco-friendly lighbulbs and turning all of the lights off when you leave a room. Everything you do to reduce your carbon footprint is essential. Awareness and action are key to preserving our resplendent home.

Coachella was a fleeting stop for me yesterday. I drove in from LaLa Land and headed straight to the Viceroy Palm Springs for the Good Life Pool Party, sponsored by Vitamin Water and Hornitos Tequila. As I cruised around the sweltering shindig imbibing on my refreshing, handmade Hornitos Margarita, I couldn't help but notice that the pool had transformed into the The East Village of NYC! Speaking as a former Manhattanite, I looked on as hipsters and skinny boys and girls swarmed the pool and grooved to tunes by Spankrock and The Golden Filter, looking like they had found the best place on Earth.

After making a sojourn to a friends house for more cocktails and poolside, I finally reached my intended destination, Empire Polo Field, aka Coachella. For those who have never been, the site is massive and hiking from your vehicle to centerfield must constitute your daily exercise requirement. After exploring the various lighted sculptures, food vendors, and on premise record store, I settled in and got ready for My Bloody Valentine.

MBV is not your typical alternative rock band-from their endless guitar riffs, to mega distortion and the reverb they dish out. At the conclusion of "You Made Me Realize," the ending riff alone lasted for 15 minutes with every member of the band coming together and blasting their instruments as hard and as loud as possible, therefore forcing me to address them as "My Bloody Ears!" Many in the audience weren't too keen on what they were hearing as they clasped their ears and scurried as far away from the stage as their weary legs would take them. It quickly turned from music to noise as the riff wouldn't end. It was at that point, I made my exit as well. Catch you next time, Robert Smith!

I was drawn to this look because it has one of my preferred stylistic details-the plunging neckline. The handiwork is very meticulous and compliments the silhouette without overpowering it.

It was the battle of the B's last night in Los Angeles-Bruce vs. Britney. They were both performing right down the street from one another-2 completely different crowds, 2 distinct styles of music. I opted for the classic-Springsteen. No offense Brit, you know I dig your style.

The energy inside the Los Angeles Sports Arena was frenetic and palpable, from Springsteen, the band, and the crowd. Drummer Max Weinberg gripped the congregation with his beatdown during, "Candy's Room," and even had his son Jay, take over his set during part of the show for "Lonesome Day," "The Rising," and "Born to Run." Steven Van Zandt couldn't get enough of the audience and didn't even mind when Bruce, clad in his typical Americana gear of dark jeans, black T-Shirt, and black vest, playfully splashed him with a bottle of water. Patti Scialfa was noticeably absent from the festivities, but her sister, Suzie, did a fine job in her place.

Mike Ness of Social Distortion jumped on to the stage and rocked the house to his own "Bad Luck" with Bruce and company, with each taking turns singing lead on the song. During "Hungry Heart" Bruce lept upon the runway platform and provoked the audience into sheer elation. Ever the entertainer, Springsteen titillated his admirers when he used his own micstand as a pole for his stripper routine!

The throngs of people were a buzz, making declarations like, "This is the best Bruce Show ever!" and "I have never seen him play like this!" He even took requests from the showgoers in the form of homemade signs, hence the playing of "Proud Mary," which made the people go absolutely nuts. And of course, he passionately executed the classics like "Thunder Road," "Backstreets," and he concluded the extravaganza with the a massive sing along to "Glory Days."

The humanitarian side of Springsteen was also on display as he urged his followers to make donations to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank to help feed the hungry. As he chanted, "I am living a dream," he demonstrated to his fans that this night was akin to "building a music house of spirit, power, and knowledge." This was defintely his house and his night.

You know a fete is going to be good if Bond St. is catering it. Hello, Arugula Crispy Potato Rolls with Ginger Dressing! Last night, I partied it up at the Warren Tricomi Salon in West Hollywood for the Citysearch launch of Mopshots.com, an online hairstyle lookbook where users can submit photos and check out other people's do's.

In between stuffing my mouth with savory sushi and swigging Rose's Mopshots Mojitos , I caught up with my gorgeous friend, Steven Durbahn, Managing Partner of Bond St. Restaurants and his equally appealing BF, Keith Peterson, of Splits59. While reminiscing about our fondness of the Lamborghini party step and repeat (where are those pictues anyway??), Steven revealed to me that Bond Street has been hosting some sensational soirees-i.e. the Tori Spelling bash the night before. Can't wait to get on that invite list!

I also conversed with stylist Brandon Martinez who has appeared on Bravo's "Blowout" and Style Network's "Split Ends" and has developed a line of hair products called B The Product. He assured me that his products are effective and you don't have a PhD in hairstyleology to make them work. Especially if you are as proficient with styling hair as I am not! Looking forward to that dry shampoo, B!

I must say that I did feel like an entirely new woman once Lorenzo Calderon, an extremely talented stylist at Warren-Tricomi, had his way with me, meaning HAIR! This was not our initial rendez-vous though. He had styled me to perfection on Day 2 at the Haven during the Oscars, which was the day before Ed Tricomi himself worked his magical mitts through my mane! I know-it's part of the job :) Perplexed at how effortlessly Lorenzo would toss and twirl my hair into picture-perfect, fuss-free submission, I couldn't help but look on with envy and groan, "why can't I style my hair like that?" Without pause, he wittingly retorted, "Well then you wouldn't need us!" and he is accurate-we do need our hairstyling heroes. Not only do they make us feel glamourous and fabulous, but that 1 hour in the chair often constitutes an entire counseling session and can avert us from pulling our own hair out. The stories that could be told.............

Violets, in all of their delicacy, are frequently attributed to being acaulescent-seemingly rising from the Earth with no apparent stems, as if these beautiful blooms pushed their way through dirt to get where they want to be. Such was the parable tonight at the premiere of "American Violet" at the Silver Screen Theater in the Pacific Design Center deep in the heart of West Hollywood, which was a benefit for the ACLU Foundation of Southern California. "American Violet," distributed by Samuel Goldwyn Films, centers on the real life drama of a woman, Regina Kelly, who was wronged, but wasn't about to let that impede her from procuring right. Falsely accussed and arrested in a sweeping drug bust, Regina had to stand up for her freedom and fight for the right to be reunited with what was paramount in the world to her-her children. Everyone associated with this production who I chatted with, from director Tim Disney to stars Nicole Beharie and Alfre Woodard, all shared similar feelings of warmth and camaraderie from the set. In fact, Alfre Woodard, clad in a violet colored Nanette Lepore cap sleeve sheath dress, expressed to me that it was truly "a set of friends" and Tim Disney relayed that the first time they showed the movie to Regina Kelly, whom the film is based upon, Nicole and Regina held hands throughout the viewing.

The New York-based, Julliard groomed star of the film, Nicole Beharie inquired,"How do I do this? Explain it to me!" as the Red Carpet newbie glided down the line of flash bulbs pointed her, posing every couple of feet in a form fitting black zipper-front Betsey Johnson number. Commended by many at the premiere for her performance in "American Violet," the actress divulged to me that the most humourous and challenging moments on set incorporated the children (4 real life sisters) who portray her daughters in the movie. The youngsters would pelt Cheerios at her head while they were trying to shoot! Leave it up to the kids to lighten the mood!

Regina Kelly was reveling in her night, but don't count on her to make a habit out of walking Red Carpets. She affirmed to me that she didn't know how actors got accustomed to living in the limelight and that she was perfectly blissful with her life now of speaking engagements, community organization and involvement, and "just living her life now that she is free." Certainly, a life well worth fighting for.

RED CARPET ROXY'S "RED ALERT OF THE WEEK"-APRIL 13, 2009

The "Red Alert of the Week" brings us back to the United States and the issue of horse slaughter. Many viewers might not know that although the United States terminated all 3 of its horse processing plants by 2007, there is still a thriving business of exporting horses to Canada and Mexico for slaughter for human consumption designated for countries like Italy, France, and Japan. Often the transportation to Mexico and Canada alone puts the horses in serious danger as they are usually loaded into double decker trucks used for cattle and other short necked livestock. This can mean severed and mamed limbs, eyes, and worse-even death.

Sadly, these horses were usually not purposed to end up on somebody's dinner plate. They are lead to auction in order to place them in good homes. However, "killer buyers"-people hired to buy for the foreign horse slaughter plants- abound at these auctions and often outbid any of the other buyers, including those of equine rescue organizations.

Currently, there is legislation trying to make its way through Congress called the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act of 2009 that would prevent the inception of any new horse slaughter plants in the United States as well as prohibit the the export of American horses for slaughter for human consumption.

Even though there is a tenacious campaign opposing horse slaughter, the Montana legislature passed a bill, H.B. 418, that would make investor-owned horse slaughter plants legal and actually sheild these slaughter houses from judicial challenges. You can contact Governor Schweitzer of Montana and let him know how you feel about this issue and urge him to veto this bill by clicking here. Bravo Taylor! Way to rock the Red Carpet! This week's Red Carpet Roxy's "Look of the Week," was a very perspicuous choice. As soon as I caught a glimpse of this picture on Monday morning, I knew it had to be the one. It is country singer Taylor Swift from the Academy of Country Music Awards that was held this past Sunday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Taylor nabbed the award for Album of the Year for her collection of songs entitled "Fearless." And fearless on the Red Carpet she certainly is! I like her style-she has consistently been making bold selections when it comes to fashion, and they have paid off. She graces the cover of this month's Allure Magazine, and is pretty blunt when interviewed. For example, she states about virginity,“It’s fine to talk about love publicly. But I think when you talk about virginity and sex publicly, people just automatically picture you naked. And as much as I can prevent people picturing me naked, I’m going to.”

Speaking of keeping clothed, let's chat about her Red Carpet Roxy win. Her gorgeous one shouldered scarlet frock was the creation of extremely talented evening wear and bridal fashion designer Angel Sanchez, who actually began his career as an architect, which lends itself to his designs being not only visually alluring, but also to seemingly fit faultlessly. Her look was capped off by a VBH Clutch and stunning Neil Lane jewels. Lastly, her swept back, loose do was the infallible choice to get the most out of this look. This is how a young lady of 19 should look on the Red Carpet-sophisticated, yet playful, and daring with class. A Fearless Angel in red!

Happy Prevention of Cruelty to Animals month! Every April, the ASPCA signifies the plight of animals by dedicating and heightening the awareness of animal and wildlife welfare issues, and this April is no different. As a matter of fact, this week's "Red Alert of the Week" leads us to our neighbor from the North, Canada. Every year at this time, the government makes it legal for sealers to hunt and slaughter seals-some of them only a few weeks old. According to the Humane Society, "it is the largest slaughter of marine mammals in the world." Seals are typically clubbed or shot to death for their fur and are sometimes cut open while still alive. As you can imagine, there is nothing "humane" about this process-in fact, the Canadian government has made it legal for the sealers to kill 280,000 seals this year-up 5,000 seals from last year and generally, sealers are not penalized if they exceed the number allowed. It is not uncommon for tens of thousands of seals to be killed in a matter of days! I had the pleasure of interviewing Nigel Barker of "America's Next Top Model" on this very issue that he is so passionate about at a STYLE360 party in his honor last September during New York Fashion Week. He has documented the hunt with his own lens, and you can view it here.

The European Union will decide in a few weeks if it will ban the trade of seal products and Russia has made the announcement that they will stop the killing of baby harp seals. Canada is still holding out in favor of the barbaric hunt.

Thankfully, there are many Canadians who do not support the hunt, and one in particular, Senator Marc Harb has come forward to express his and others beliefs by creating a petition urging the Canadian government to ban the seal hunt and to try to transition these commercial sealers into work that isn't cruel to animals. You can make your voice heard by signing a petition, making a donation, and/or creating awareness by getting the word out. Nothing you do is too insignificant or ineffective, especially when it comes to the lives of the seals.

All hail the emperor-of haute couture-Mr. Valentino Garavani! Quite possibly my most admired fashion designer of all time, he is nonpareil in his art. He knows and loves every inch of a woman's body when he creates one of his masterpieces, and his mastery and passion will take any plain jane to a Goddess in one zip of a dress. I had the absolute pleasure of meeting the man at the Weinstein Company's Pre-Oscar Soiree in February, and he was enchanting and delightful, just as you would expect, as well as surrounded by a bevy of beautiful women who, no doubt, lavished in his charm and talent.

Valentino just showcased his documentary film, "Valentino:The Last Emperor" with a star studded premiere in Los Angeles this past week at the Bing Theater in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA.) The cameras capture Valentino in the final 2 years of his illustrious career. Valentino-clad celebrities descended upon the Red Carpet at the premiere, from Anne Hathaway to Gwyneth Paltrow, and in fact, Gwyneth wins the Red Carpet Roxy's "Look of the Week" for her sexy, playful, and avant-garde gray Valentino number. It is the perfect dress for the Red Carpet. And if you glance down the image, you will see that she complemented the dress with Christian Louboutin bandage stilettos!! HOT!! Love her style-she isn't afraid to take chances and play with sillouettes and colors. It also can't hurt to have a BFF like Valentino, right?

Look who Red Carpet Roxy ran into last night at the opening of the Harveys store on Melrose Avenue in LA-cutie pie Talan Terriero! That makes 2 "Laguna Beach" alums in 1 week. Am I not in the right place at the right time? He was there to support his aunt who is married to the owner of Harveys. Who knew he was such a family man? We had fun checking out the Harveys handbags that were on full display, as we sauntered around sipping our tasty Rose's Mojitos.

I liked the more chic line of purses called the Sujean Rim for Harveys City Jungle Collection coming out for Fall 2009. Soul Stash Rocking Out

Talk, dark, handsome, and he loves Cougars! That's right Cougars, listen up-Jason Wahler loves you! In fact, he is promoting his new show, "Jason and the Cougars," and he relayed to me last night at a bar called The Good Hurt in LaLaland, that it was really cool to see "super hot" women over 35. Is 35 the magic Cougar number? Anyway, back to Jason. He wouldn't reveal what the show was actually about, but I think you probably have a pretty good idea. Jason has come a ways since his "Laguna Beach" days, although he did mention to me when I was interviewing him that he really did not keep up with his old crew like Heidi Montag and Lauren Conrad. I guess that means no cameo appearance on the series finale of "The Hills?" Stay tuned and check your local listings for "Jason and the Cougars."

The reason Jason was in attendance last night was to support the band, Soul Stash and preview their new self-titled album which will be released in June. This band makes high energy rock, not in the same vein as U2, but more like a mix of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Silverchair-Southern rock with harder riffs and good melodies. No doubt this is because the band (originally from Atlanta, Georgia) is comprised of 2 playfully dueling guitar players, Joel Williams and Clay Houle, and 1 funky bass player, Marshall Coats, in addition to the lead singer and larger than life soul man, Chris Barlett, and 16 year old but serious drummer, Tanner Hendon. The more Soul Stash rocked, the more the audience was drawn to them and listened, which will probably determine their success and direction of their music careers. Rock on, Soul Stash!

RED CARPET ROXY'S "RED ALERT OF THE WEEK" MARCH 30, 2009

Hello friends! I hope you have had a healthy, happy weekend. I am installing a new feature on my site every Monday called the Red Carpet Roxy's "Red Alert of the Week." It focuses on the plight of animals and wildlife all over the world, spotlights a particular issue, and shows you how you can help and make a difference. For Red Carpet Roxy, it is important to help these creatures as they have no voice and what is happening to them is appalling and totally unacceptable. If you can and desire to do so, please help them.

So our first "Red Alert of the Week," comes from Kenya in Africa. Red Carpet Roxy was watching "60 Minutes" last night, and was shocked to see what is happening to the lions in Kenya. They are being poisoned by herders whose livestock is often attacked by lions as a source of food. These herders use a cheap American made chemical called Furadan, which is used as a protectant pesticide for crops, not intended for use as a way to control natural predators. However, the herders are using it to protect their cattle and poison the lions, since it is cheap costing about $2.00 a bottle.

The number of lions was around 200,000 about 20 years ago, but now that number is somewhere around 30, 000 and they are diminishing fast! Many cubs will never live to see adulthood, and entire prides of lions are being extinguished. As a result, other wildlife such a vultures and hyenas are also perishing as they feed on the poisoned lion carcasses and assume the fatal effects of the poison themselves. This completely devastates the entire wildlife food chain. Also, this horrific problem of poisoning is spreading to the neighboring countries. This is not in keeping with the balance of our ecosystem-we need the lions, and the other animals.

The sad thing is, many people in Kenya view the lions as a great threat, however they are very unlikely to go after humans in that region, as humans have tortured, shot, killed, and trapped them so much over time that they are fearful of people! There is a delicate balance between the ranchers trying to sustain a living and conserving wildlife that needs to be determined. Red Carpet Roxy's Look of the Week comes to us from a Canadian designer, Carlie Wong. Not only was she a contestant on "Project Runway Canada" (she got eliminated), but she just showed her Fall 2009 Collection at LG Fashion Week in Toronto this past week. Although this piece is from her last collection (Spring/Summer 2009), Red Carpet Roxy could not ignore it. For one, this could easily be a daytime or nighttime ensemble (imagine sipping vodka gimlets all afternoon at The Ivy then rolling into a cocktail party at an undisclosed location in the hills high above Hollywood at night.) Also, Carlie plays with the lengths and proportions of the outfit, pairing a small, sexy around the neck halter top with 1940's wide legged trousers. You can't go wrong with black, white, and the ruffle details of this garb. Would you be surprised if you saw Charlize Theron working the Red Carpet in this outfit?

Check out Dennis Quaid Rocking Out!

I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised and very entertained last night as I watched Dennis Quaid and the Sharks rock out on stage at a private event in Beverly Hills. You could tell how much Dennis Quaid loves rock 'n' roll, singing, and performing in front of an audience, which makes it that much more enjoyable to watch him. His training for the movie, "Great Balls of Fire," in which he assumed the role of the legendary rocker, Jerry Lee Lewis, was on full display as he energized his admirers. In fact, he relayed to his congregation that the band hasn't played together in almost 2 years. He was definitely fired up to play his bluesy, Southern rock!

Dennis knows how to work the patrons-particularly the women-as he jumped off the stage and was jamming his guitar as he cruised around the onlookers teasing the ladies and making the men jealous. Women actually squealed with giddy glee. I am not joking! I am surprised that bras and panties didn't flood the stage! During the tail end of one of the Southern jamming tunes, he managed to weave in a snippet of Snoop Dogg's, "Gin & Juice." Who knew Snoop had that Southern edge? Dennis joked about people getting "bailout money" in Beverly Hills and that was why his band got back together. This was definitely Dennis' night.

Being that I am a fellow Texan and big dreamer, it really struck a chord with me when he echoed that he was a Houston boy with wings on his back who could be the star of a movie. Anyone who knows the story of Mr. Quaid knows that success did not come quickly for him he had to really prove himself to be recognized by the Hollywood bigwigs, until he finally reached commercial success with "Jaws 3-D." You have got to love a dreamer-they can show you that anything is possible if you have got wings, right? Keep on rocking Big D!
